Haven't been posting lately. Reading up a little more to save the time. I did have a question though about the 1990 penny. I read that a "s" mint marked penny (proof) with the "s" missing is a great find. I also read that a 1990 penny without a mint mark was very common. I'm a bit confused. Can someone explain. Thank you.
I'd be glad to explain. The 1990 s no s cent is a proof error. All proofs are made in san Francisco except a few exceptions. All have an s mintmark. The no s proof was missing a mintmark and would only be found in proof sets.
The regular business strike cent minted in Philadelphia comes without a mintmark on cents, and on all other denominations from 1980 till now the Philly coins have a P mintmark. I recommend that you go to your local dealer and buy a cheap proof set to have as reference to see how different proof strikes are from business strikes.
