The plaque is about 28x22 inches. The Lincoln medal is about 6 inches and is mounted into the back of the plaque with screws. Something is not right with it. The medal does not match any that I have seen. I'm looking for any information you have.
What is it made of? Can you tell? Looks to me to be some type of Lincoln Memorial / Gettysburg, PA gift shop item from the '60's or so. But it also looks like it was mounted to something. What I'm saying is... I really have no clue, other then it's an interesting piece of exonumia.
I have seen a similar plaque that was done by Brenner, but I can't say if this is one or not, but I would suspect it is a copy of it.
@ldhair Sorry definitely not a real penny. Probably a chinese knockoff. If you look closely you can see a second date stamped on the left of Lincoln. There is also a slight tilt on the right date. And the DEAD giveaway is that the date says 1865. Everyone knows that the Lincoln penny design wasn't used until like 1993. Or something
Not to mention it's 6" across, mounted to a plaque, and is missing everything that should be on a Lincoln cent, except for Lincoln. 1809 is Lincoln's birthyear, and 1865 was the year of his death. You might want to go back and actually read the OP's post.
I’m sure he will be able to offer some insight. Not at home right now so I don’t have access to any of my books.
Paul has one shown in his book but the medal is different. Heritage sold one a few months back for $5100. That got me wondering what I had.
Interesting! Like I said, I know nothing about this type of thing. What about it gives it that kind of value?
This is probably the medal you saw that sold for a high price. https://auctions.stacksbowers.com/lots/view/3-6Y33J
