I have it on good authority that it will not be a 100 point grading scale.

    LMFAO!!! :mouth:

I'm showing my age now...when I was young, my Mother would take me into the city (Chicago) and we would have lunch at an Automat...but I recall the sandwitches being more like 35¢.

That's a cool story! Never understood why we still don't have Automats with the profusion of fast foods and everything else on the go in 'modern' society.

    The Big News.
PCGS will open PCGS University. A learning and research center for all ages. It will have a full library.
There will be classes on grading, history, computers, and imaging, just to name a few.
Classes can be taken online or in the classroom. It will house a conservation department next to none.
There will be a museum of historic items as well as a large section on fake and altered coins.
Every fake or altered coin PCGS handles will be added to a giant online reference with high res. images.
David will put on a cool shirt and walk the Halls everyday to make sure everything is going well.
    What a plan.

NYC had 'em too. Horn and Hardart automat was a great place to grab a reasonably priced lunch back in the '60's. Wish we still had them.

I can remember going into an automat as a small child with my mom, and being amazed at all the choices and windows.

I was just reading the hype in "Coin World" add for PCGS...

I was going to post and see if anyone heard about this and found this thread...

I have never seen an automat in my life but I did watch a show about them a while back. One of the more interesting things it showed is someone was trying to bring automats back and start a new chain of them with all sorts of modern type food to update them.

I think PCGS and Dominion are going to merge.... hahaha!!

Or maybe PCGS is going to use the "Signature Series" that DGS was using.

What an interesting thread. Full of great innovated ideas. So like th PCGS STar machine. Put in a MS 68 your guaranteed at least an EF40 to come out

However after a lot of thinking I think i know what it is, so we can all relax now (though i really like the college idea).

PCGS is going to come out with Decorative slabs for each holiday. Of course you will have to submit your coin for grading each holiday. However PCGS has it's customers in mind. If you submit a previously graded PCGS coin and need a new slab for a holiday PCGS will take 25% off for you, as you are a cherished customer.

    Regards,
    Stan

Most cities had them back then, the automat was a big thing for awhile in the 50's and early 60's. I remember just one once but the memory is dim. (I was a small child at the time)

And PCI before that, and SEGS before that, and PCI before that! (The signature series idea goes back to about 1992. Even further if you include the First Coinvestors certifcates signed by Walter Breen.)
