I have three sets of counterfeit two cent pieces. The quality of them is rather poor and “shouldn’t” fool anyone. Note I said “shouldn’t”. Here is a short article I wrote on this... http://www.numissociety.com/content.php?161-A-Look-at-Replica-Two-Cent-Pieces
If you got this coin at a reasonable price (including shipping from Europe, which usually stops me from bidding unless the final cost is acceptable) I think you will be happy with it. As @Michael K indicated, I would work on the verdigris immediately upon receipt. Here’s a tip for my fellow CTers: I recently had some good luck buying US/Canadian coinage from an eBay seller in Slovenia. Yes, I was leery at first. I really wanted a Norwegian coin she/he had for sale, but didn’t like the $10 shipping charge. So, I looked at everything the seller had listed, bid on some lots of US/Canadian coins, won enough of them (some at a VERY decent price) and the seller shipped all 17 coins for $10, dropping my outlay to $0.59 per coin). The coins arrived promptly enough, were as advertised, and I was happy with the overall experience. By sharing this, I realize that if I attempt this in the future I could face competition from someone in the CT family for some bargains. No problem. Steve
Looks legit to me. This is a large motto variety which is very common. The small motto variety is scarce and considerably more valuable and the one to look out for.
Call me crazy, but I've no doubt the OP is perfectly capable of determining this on his own. Promoting baseless paranoia helps no one.
Very interesting. I hadn't seen the Chinese counterfeit these yet, but I suppose it was only a matter of time. Thanks for sharing that information.
I have no doubt about that. My post was for the above poster who repeated exactly what I had posted earlier. And my post was just to say that his post had already been posted. When people don't read all the posts in a thread, there is miscommunication.
Don't have a tracing of the Large Motto obverse. Well actually I don't have a complete tracing of the Small Motto obverse. But the reverses are the same. Based on this your's looks good.
