Another suggestion, When ever you buy something, Buy her something as well That way when you get something she does to!!
Sometimes when wives are not interested in coins, it works out really well. She inherited her father's collection of coins and bullion with many varieties and denominations from the civil war forward...mostly silver, some gold..a lot of Morgans. She looked at me and said "Are you interested in this stuff? From that point, I became the happy custodian & curator!
I must be lucky, my wife doesn't say a word if I buy something, in fact, being disabled, I'm not always well enough to get to my coin club meetings and she goes along in case she has to drive. Just bought a Lafayette Dollar, 2 weeks after Christmas and all she said was it looks good. I really appreciate the support I get.
Wow, Lafayette Dollars are not cheap in any grade. Sounds like you are more fortunate than most on this forum.
My husband WISHES I'd be content spending $50 at a nail salon! We're both collectors but I probably outspend him ten to one in a heartbeat when it comes to coins & currency. I spent 4k today on currency.
My wife does not understand why someone would pay so much for so little in her mind, but after several years of marriage she does accept what I like to do and that someday it may make for a good investment in some cases.
My wife just reitterated everything I just said a couple of nights worth. She basically said she hated my coins because she just dosn't understand why I would collect them. I thought about trying to explain it to her but, then again......
Fair is Fair Yep. If you get something~They get somethig. My Fav was the day Mom got a new sewing machine and Dad got a new sail for his boat. (He still feels guilty because the sail cost more than the sewing machine.)
I had a pickup truck & camper my wife hated. Once hate is expressed it is just fuel to the topic. After seeing the therapist a few times together she was convinced she should consider forgiving me for buying a self contained truck/trailer system to perhaps get us over the possible Y2K problems. Obviously a few years ago confrontation. Camped in it from MI to Florida many times. But it is something she HATES! So she gets to stomp out and walk in the woods until she comes back to the locaton she hates and we go from there. WHEN invited to come along, she does. She just hates it.....because I lied about the color for that truck! Go figure. I think she is beginning to read the numbers on the coins.....she just may be using them for her morning I~Ching decisions.
A Lucky Guy GREAT ATTITUDE!! There are a few of us fortunate to have a "Golden Lady", in our treasure trove, and I'm also one of the fortunate few. My Lady loves to help me, will encourage me to attend coin or gun shows, always brings me presents, and virtually never asks for anything. She has stated that she would rather have a beautiful coin present, than a "female" item. I treat her as if she were the most precious gift in this world, because she is, in my life. I tend to believe that a positive attitude begets the same, and if you ignore the perceived faults of others, they may ignore yours. We are blessed!! To others offended by the differences between the sexes, all I can say is: An understanding/accepting attitude may make matters better, if not, there surely must be a better place. Enjoy Life, its' the only one you have.
One can deliver a message of happiness (with a smile) in ones' life, but be frustrated (banging head) that others don't recognize that they may be a factor in their sad "affairs".
My wife just doesn't understand the values involved. As an accountant it's just money and money has a fixed value to her, it's either a credit or a debit. So I just don't keep her up to date on coin spending. She does like her new MKS though. :smile
My wife doesn't say a thing, and that is good since I don't have a wife! LOL For the past year or so I have really slowed down in coin buying and only buy a few select gems for my collection. This can sometimes be $$, but at other times it can be rather cheap. I know someday I'll have to watch my spending more so I try to enjoy my freedom while I have it! Speedy
Interesting thread. As for me, my wife and I have a great understanding. We each have an allowance and our own personal checking account. She goes to the Casino with hers, and then grumbles when the money is gone.....although she does enjoy playing. I go to the coin shows with mine, and she looks at what I bought and remarks "At least you have something to show for yours." I am blessed with an understanding and supportive wife...even when I spend a bunch on coins. "It's your money, spend it how you want to."
