I came across the coin posted below, in an add for sale this is the only photo provided.
I have been trying to get the seller to give me more photos but haven't gotten them yet.
Is it possible to tell what the coin is and reverse with out seeing more?
What kind of value I know it is vague and less than descriptive, but this is all I have to go with. Ancient coin.jpg

Thanks for any info you can give.

Be careful on this one. I think I see casting marks on the neck.

To me that looks like a drachm or tetradrachm of Lysimachos, King of Thrace, showing the deified Alexander III.

Please wait for the experts to chime in, though – also because I am not quite sure what to make of the strange silver-ish deposits/protrusions on Alexander's neck.

Has there been any reports of fake NGC holders?

I don't know, the coin looks struck to me. The deposits on the neck may not necessarily be signs of casting...

That being said I would never bid on a coin without being able to see the reverse. Would you buy a house if you weren't allowed to see half of it before you signed on the dotted line? :banhappy: Would you buy a car if you were only able to inspect it from the outside, and the windows were blocked so you couldn't see what was inside? Of course not, so why would you buy half a coin? The other half is just as important to the decision making process.

I am an in hand buyer. I never have bought from the bay or even an auction.
This is for sale in the area near me and didn't know if there was an easy way to identify the coin for value purposes.

It seems that there are really no identifying characteristics by the obverse alone to identify the reverse. I can understand.

@Sallent this would be an inhand purchase, I was just wondering if there would be some range of value for these coins. Like an owl Tet usually runs in the 500 or better range depending on how well it is centered.

Any other guess's as to the reverse?

Better yet, can anyone help me with how to identify the obverse. And what I am seeing?

Could be especially with fake slabs now adays.
I am not sure I am seeing the same thing you do though. I have seen many of the in US coins.
I don't know much about ancients. 4 years in and they are still relatively new to me.

The depth/height, and detail on these is amazing, especially for the time it was produced.

A lot of talented artists/sculptors must have carved the dies.

So, there are also some discrepancy's that I have with the way it is listed.
This one says that he found it cleaning out a house, and the reason I asked about value. I would like to know if this is a fire sale, (I wouldn't want to buy a stolen coin) And if need be report it to the proper authorities. His no response made me concerned. I will message him again.:)

@Andres2 what would you value yours at? Add sentimental value.
