In the last 40 year only a few catalogs regarding Byzantine coinage have been created. Most Notable David Sears Byzantine Coins and their Values and Sommers German catalog ( very incomplete.), Dumbarton Oakes catalogs are currently the best information but when released were not originally easily accessible for the collector and rarely used for coin descriptions or communication between collectors. When Byzantine coins are discussed we tend to use David Sears catalog system but it also has the advantage of values for each of the coins. Has anyone heard of a new catalog being attempted or even a rewrite of Sears BCV?.A lot of new finds have occurred in the last few decades and Byzantine coins see to be on a constant rise at auctions. A new catalog is due.
I have “Ancient Coin Collecting V, The Romaion-Byzantine Culture”, published in 1998. Good beginner byzantine book.
