Interesting post... grades range from VF-20 to MS-63.... so my guess is somewhere between VF-20 and MS-63. That about covers it!
After further review, I think it is AU. The pictures probably aren't doing it justice. I don't know if I'm seeing wear or not, but the left wheat stalk and Lincoln's fro don't look pristine, hence the AU grade.
Although I have shared a PM with Dick, it has not changed my opinion. My first post I stated I feel this coin was high AU But the nicks bring it down to lower.
Well, they said it was 53. I would give it a 55 or a 62 depending on how I felt at the moment. Yes, I can see something on the cheek and ear, but the shine/luster does not change that I can see. I do not think I could argue with either grade, but I have other coins with more obvious ear/cheek "wear" and they are called MS.
Mark it down. I undergraded one -AND- guessed lower than GDJMSP. I must have been in a bad mood at the time... lol
p.s. RLM, I'll bet luster (or lack thereof) kept the coin out of a higher grade holder. But the heck with the grade, that's a wonderfully original coin with some mint red showing -- many collectors could learn a thing or two from looking at that one carefully.
perfectly graded chocolate coin Now after reading the posts I must admit I know but I would never have given it as low as an XF-40 - maybe 45 but the coin is nice, detail all over the place. I think it's a perfect chocolate AU coin. Why they gave it a 53 is anyone's guess - I'd sooner howl at the moon than try to figure out the TPG companies reasons for such but,,, I could make this coin into an AU-55 all day long and not one person on here would be able to tell not even the gods at PCGS. Really,,,
Seriously, I thought that was your 62........I was not going to guess because I had " insider info ". 62 would not suprise me a bit, or a 53/55/58. That coin should trade at a nice premium
