Any detectives out there....the coin type?

I am a Brit so from the UK. I bought a more expensive coin at the same time from them and whilst the grade was good it had PVC or resin on it. So got shafted on that too. Had to send it to NCS for treatment. However, that coin (Kiangnan 1904 Dollar) has now been sent to PCGS and a good result would make all the truth or ethical practices of the AH fade away. My problem now is that I have a supposed credit note with them sitting there but probably not very enthusiastic about bidding with them again. Apparently the President of NSA inspected my dollar and must have been blind no to see the PVC when the coin was in hand....more difficult for me from a scan. Even high status AH's I have dealt with for years make gaping 'errors' it seems. Bought Straits Settlement group with a QV 20c as the start lot yet they clearly 'forgot' to tell me it was an ex mount.....ouch.

Seriously, if I were you I would be looking for different places to buy your coins. There are many reputable and respected dealers and auction houses in the US and Europe. There simply is no need to use companies like this. Doing so commonly produces results similar to what happened to you in this case.

I take your point but there are issues with nearly all the AH's unless you only buy top tier premium price slabbed coins. Even basic stuff from well known Co's in the UK like DNW and they fail to mention the key coin in a group is an ex mount. I've had Croydon Coin Auctions send me excellent coins only to be scratched by chucking all three coins together in a bag without any protection/wrapping. Lack of truth, accuracy or just plain idiocy seems to prevail in many auction houses it seems.

Any company that makes those mistakes or does the things you describe is not one I would call reputable and respected.

And I told you long ago that many dealers and auction houses in Europe have entirely different rules when it comes to problem coins, meaning they don't tell you that they are problem coins, or even recognize that they are problem coins to begin with.

gd buying from European or Asian ah is a pain for the most part. selective ethics. I would rather quit instead

NGC serial numbers received and check out ok. Bidding in Australia and US this month so will probably not take the risk of Singapore anyway.
