Pretty common, they consistently sell for $5 each, if the fg is not completly missing than maybe $2. 1969d is the most common, I have not heard of the 1970d. Very cool
I have found some no fg's,1969, 1970, 1986, other years. One member posted that years ago they were a big deal but nobody cares nowadays.
It's funny because for some reason unknown to me types of dd varieties change by year. In 1989 there are some class 9 ddo's that don't look like much to the untrained eye. On 1970 and 1972 there Are small light extra bits on the last 2 digits of the date. There are many different types and if you study before you look you will know what to look for.
Double it. A friend was into these, (small doubling errors), and he mounted another glass behind the main one, enough to get about 25x. It was small enough he could look at the coin in the standard glass, then move to the higher magnification to check out details, (adjusting depth of course). Good point though, by default I think these are only like 4x. Even with the light rings, its not really enough light for the higher magnification though. He had to put anoth desk mounted light to brighten it up. THe higher up you go with magnification, the more light is needed. Thinking about it, I guess I would just use my stereo microscope with 16x/32x lenses if I wanted to do this. I don't though.
I did not want to make the title too long so I put DDO without even thinking, I do check each side though, and am looking for DDR and DDO equally. I mean Doubled Die in general.
I know of someone selling 1 million pennies...I bet dime to dollar there are plenty of finds in that one....but who has the time?
Last week I found a 1984d 1do-002 doubled die. I looked through more than 20,000 cents so far. There have been less than 250 of these coins found. They minted over 5,6 billion, what are the odds of me finding one?
