just in my front pocket. nothing to get excited about. picked up two silvered ants, one of probus and one of his successor carinus. carinus was one my list, so checked another guy off! they traveled in my pocket to my back deck so i could take pictures in full daylight. carinus looked best in the sun. CARINUS, 283-285 AD, Antoninianus. O: IMP CARINVS P F AVG. Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right. R: GENIVS EXERCITI Genius standing left with patera and cornucopia. KAA in ex, Rome mint. RIC 256. 21 mm, 3.5 g nice lookin' obverse, good silvering. probus looked much worse in the sun than just lit (poorly) in my office. if i remember right, this is my first coin from serdica. i have several coins from probus, but wanted the facing quadriga...so this was also a check for me. Probus, AE antoninianus, 276-282 AD O: IMP C M AVR PROBVS P AVG, Radiate, helmeted, and cuirassed bust left, holding shield and spear R: SOLI INVICTO, Sol driving spread quadriga facing; KH•Δ• in ex, Serdica Mint. RIC V 862 (861???). 24 mm, 3.3 g. not sure on ric number, any of you probus experts know? post any carinus or probus ants you want!

OK. I'll play but with about 650 Probus coins I will try and be selective..... Carinus Antoninianus Obv:– IMP C M AVR CARINVS AVG, Radiate, bust right in imperial mantle Rev:– SALVS AVGG, Salus standing right, feeding snake Minted in Lugdunum (_|D / LVG), Emission 7, Officina 4. early A.D. 284 Reference:– RIC 216 var (not listed with this bust type in RIC). Cohen -. Bastien 574 (1 example cited) This would appear to be only the second coin with this bust type for Carinus known. Both unsurprisingly from the same die. Probus Antoninianus Obv:– VIRTVS PRO-BI AVG, Radiate, helmeted, cuirassed bust left, holding spear and shield, decorated with emperor riding past row of soldiers with shields Rev:– ADVENTVS PROBI AVG, Emperor riding left, right hand raised, left holding sceptre; at foot, captive Minted in Lugdunum (IIII) Emission 5 Officina 4. End A.D. 277 to Early A.D. 278 References:– Cohen 69. Bastien 256 (2 examples). RIC 64 Bust Type G (S) Appears to be an obverse die match to the plate example in Bastien Celebrates the successful return through Lugdunum towards Rome of Probus after a campaign against the Gauls.
Coins of Probus are IMO a superb type to collect... I love the style of the coins and the many bust variations. Great coins all.
@maridunum I was never much interested in Probus or Carinus, but these two types are really delectable!
Cool posts @chrsmat71 !!! Your OP example is far superior to mine. My best of Probus and Carinus---only the latter retains some silvering: Great posts everyone!!!!
Great coins, Chris! Nice silvering on both. Carinus (283 - 285 A.D.) Æ(S) Antoninianus O: IMP CARINVS P F AVG, radiate, draped, cuirassed bust right. R: AETERNIT AVGG, Aeternitas standing left, holding phoenix on globe, lifting hem of robe with left hand. KAΓ in ex. Rome Mint. 284 - 285 A.D. 22 mm 3.8 g RIC 248 Reverse engraver's error, missing "I"! Probus (276-282 AD) AE silvered Antoninianus A: IMP CM AVR PROBVS PF AVG, radiate bust in imperial mantle l., holding eagle-tipped sceptre. R: SOLI INVICTO / CM / XXIT, radiate Sol in spread quadriga, hand risen, holding whip. 22mm 3.8g Cyzicus, 3rd officina RIC Vb Cyzicus 911
I came across this Ant of Probus a while ago. Typical SOLI INVICTO reverse but had never seen it paired with this obverse legend: IMP C M AVR PROBVS PIVS P AVG
chrsmat => congrats on two great OP-scores (you're a great dude, so I'm always happy when I see a dude that's happy with a sweet coin-score!!) you rock
