Now here's the other end of the spectrum - these don't come so cheap. But Boy Howdy they sure are candy for the eyes
Coindad----get out a shot-gun shell and bite it....it's going to take a bigger bullet than a .22!!!! Speedy
I feel like I'm on a slippery slope here. On what level of the Inferno were these coins made? Please identify above coins please.....
Doug's playing his trump coins again ... They are fan-tas-tic. Feel the force, Luke, as it pulls you to the Dark Side.
Oh hey - we haven't even got started yet The coin with a knight standing is a ducat, struck in .983 gold by the Netherlands weighing 3.5 grams and approx 21mm. It contains .1106 oz pure gold. This coin has been continually struck with the same design since 1586. It is still being issued today. The other coin is known as a Rose Noble, also issued by the Netherlands in the province of Gorinchem. This particular was struck in 1583, soon after the 7 northern provinces of the Netherlands united and declared their independence from the Spanish crown. It was struck in essentially pure gold and weighs 7.47 grams. It is about the size of a silver dollar. My purpose in making these post was to show you examples of what is out there available to collect in the world gold area and that you can go from easily affordable - to the not so easily affordable if you desire.
Welll---I've been thinking and I'm going to help you....if I get more collectors into world coins then it leaves more US for me!!! coindad---just think of alllllllll of the nice world coins....you know you want some.....just like the ones GDJMSP showed you!!!!! Speedy
Thise are nice ones. I have a 2 1/2 gullden I always liked, and also a gold coin (10 gulden, I think?) from 1913. Real nice looking, and not expensive as is the case with other euro-gold from the era.
World gold....is this where the slope will eventually deposit me, or are there deeper evils beyond the imagination? Is it too late to turn back, or is this the road that eventually leads to that darkest place, where one becomes....a moderator(insert dramatic music here).
Pehaps a final note on the antique store transaction here, as I slowly resign myself to the likelihood that there are no hidden rarities. Maybe it was just my inexperience as a collector, but it was very exciting to acquire a hoard of unorganized coins. I suspect I would do it again, but with more realistic expectations. My kids and I have learned alot about identification and grading, and a bit of history along the way. Note to GD...I'm still having trouble with attachments, so I may take you up on the e-mail offer one day, although after seeing your gold, my collection looks rather dark. For Speedy...In addition to world coins, I am also coveting Fugio Cents and early American coins, none of which I can afford at the moment.
THAT'S what it's all about my friend Anytime at all Oh welllllllllllll, that's just because you haven't seen my copper yet Now hopefully you know coindad that I'm just having fun. That and trying to show you, and others, what else is out there. The world is literally FULL of gorgeous coins. But by all means, you collect what YOU like. And don't ever let anybody dissuade you from it
Well---GDJMSP---that is nice but...........this is only a MS63 Brown!!!! No its not mine but I know the owner pretty good Speedy
