Without commenting on the coin, I can say that the seller (ancientground) is known for selling fakes. He also sells genuine coins, but might be best to avoid.
agreed 100% with Victor, you look at his ebay listings ~80% fake stuff, On the side note, anything that comes from Bulgaria, Cyprus, Spain (sometimes), Serbia, Russia - generally not a good sign
Thanks for the input- didn't mean to post it threeX. I thought maybe an expert on the Cheri-hemi's could tell by looking at the photo. I know now to stay away from these dealers.
Everything has already been said about the coin. I for one cannot tell by the image alone. Anyway, welcome to CT Ancients.
The photo makes it look like a cast but it's really a moot point. The coin is from a well-known fakeseller and should be treated as fake.
Thanks- yeah i just found an exact replica - same underweight 1.9g being sold out of the UK just about a month ago-also on ebay so there must be a bunch just made from the same cast. Thank You for your help.
underweight eh?.. not a good sign. and def. not a good source of coins, but the coin by itself coulda fooled me, other than the lions mouth not looking right....and welcome to the dark side Mike
Really - the exact same coin and weight I found listed on ebay - just found that seller also on the notorious fake list. Got to check that list for sure. And it's not worth taking a chance, no matter what they look like.
Welcome to cointalk! You are welcome to start a new thread about any coin you want to discuss. You picked a really awkward thread to resurrect.
Depending on where and how you bought it you may have many options or none. If you bought it on eBay you can open up a dispute. https://resolutioncenter.ebay.com/ The seller will have 4 days to respond and then eBay will step in and make a decision. If you bought it on Vcoins you can send them a message and they will look into it. If all the above doesn't work and if you paid with PayPal or a credit card you can also open up a case with them.
Even though fake sellers pop up with different names, I check the FAC Fake Sellers list everytime I want to purchase a coin where I do not know the seller. It's not a fail safe, but it's a starting point
My question is what is the best way to leave feedback for him so as to warn others. He did refund the cost but not the return postage?
I bought from this dealer, and will probably buy from him again. He has a lot of non-mainstream cheap coins that have my interest. He clearly is not an expert in different fields and his attributions often are not fully correct, which is usually easy to judge from his good quality photos. This is just the type of dealer i still am able to pick nice bargains. In addition, in contrast to some "reputable" dealers, he charges honest postage costs and is quick to deliver. It all comes down to "know the coins or the dealer" again.
You may well recoup your shipping using any of the above methods. If you bought from eBay simply leave your feedback there by rating the seller. Otherwise this thread would surely count as feedback I would think...
