Here is a handsome Hadrian denarius with a sweet, sweet galley reverse. The German seller cites a little "Kleiner Schrötlingsfehler im Avers" (small planchet flaw on obverse?), which doesn't bother me much at all.

    @ €250 (=$310.28), not including international shipping.

What sayeth thee? Yea or nay, at the price?

I think it's a nice denarius with really great detail. The reverse detail is outstanding. Is it worth $310 plus shipping? Personal call! It's past my budget, so I would have to pass; however, given the right circumstances, I would buy it.

I voted for the 7th selection. I think it is because all of their pigs are shaped like hot dogs.

Y'all get up to two voting options. I see several people voting for one "bacon" option or another, but not the coin options. Hmph.

Don't go makin' me take the bacon off the table in future polls, now!

@Bing- I recently sold both medieval hammered gold coins from the Eclectic Box, because neither would straight-grade at a TPG. (Though both were nice coins. I'm just particular about plastic.) So I have a little "play money"... briefly. Some (most) of that has been re-spent, but there's essentially enough left over to buy this coin... or something like it.

Big ol' nay here. You looked at comps, right? CNG's e-auction archives has many that are arguable nicer (or if not conditionally nicer, more artistic) than this one for much less money.

Great looking coin, high price (in my opinion, having ZERO experience in ancients, just that I have a low coin budget), no clue what to recommend. I voted neutral.

As a Canadian I just have to state that we do not use the term "Canadian Bacon" for anything. We call that delicious circular hamlike substance "pea-meal bacon" as it is rolled in pea-meal (the yellow stuff) - which acts as a preservative. Man - I know way too much about bacon.. much more so than ancient coins unfortunately.
But I do love that coin!!

No, I had not done any research yet. Not that my trigger finger was hovering over the mouse button yet, either, by any means.

I voted inexperienced/nay. I like the type a lot, but it seems expensive and that particular one didn't appeal to me.

I know you said it doesn't bother you but the obverse flan flaw bothers me which will negatively impact my valuation but overall I think it's overpriced by a considerable margin.

See? These quickie polls are worthwhile.

(Yes, I do need to get into the practice of using acsearch more. I would've done that before taking the plunge, I think.)

Obviously you have much more experience AND knowledge then I do, but the price seems high to me. So after reading TIF's post I did a super-quick search. I think you can do MUCH better for the $$$. Don't get me wrong, it's a great coin, if it were priced maybe $100 cheaper, imo.

Even quicker than composing a "should I buy this" thread with poll is to just check CNG's archives.

While the obverse detail in Hadrian's portrait is excellent, the flan flaw is bothersome. The reverse detail in the galley is good but not great, and reverse centering is marginally acceptable.

At that price I would keep looking.

OK, thanks, all. The "nays" have it.

Maybe I'll throw out a couple more quickie (non-ancient) y/n polls later, just for fun. But the effects of last night's graveyard shift is catching up with me now. Eyelids ... getting ... heavy ...

Parting thought... I now wonder how many of the coins in my collection would have polled as "nays", had I bothered to ask, based on either quality ... or price ... or both?

That might just be "one of those questions you don't wanna know the answer to".

... but not always as much fun.

I mean, really - how often have you seen a good bacon discussion on CNG? :p

I'm no ancients guy, but I really like that reverse . . . Aye, say I.
