Tarentum nomoi do seem to be very popular these days. Perhaps it is the multitude of varieties. Maybe it's because everyone wants a guy riding a dolphin (who wouldn't?). They can be purchased at reasonable levels, but they can also be very expensive. I have 7 varieties now and they range from about $1,850 for my new acquisition to nearly $24K for the rarest one. As you've probably noticed, I'm using octopus boy for my avatar now!

I thought I would resurrect this thread as I have just acquired my first coin from Taras in a fine archaic style. CALABRIA, Tarentum. Circa 500-490 BC. AR Nomos (8.02 g, 8h). SARAT Taras (or Phalanthos) riding dolphin right, holding octopus, left hand extended /SARAT Hippocamp left; cockle shell below. Fischer-Bossert 31 (V13/R24); Vlasto 115; HN Italy 827. HGC 1 753v Question : The inscription on this coin (and a few others from Taras) is retrograde - any ideas why ? View attachment 965346
I think I read a Japanese story once about a lady and an octopus. Made me see cephalopods in a whole new way.
