I also learned that the Indian Head Cent from 1859-1864 was called a nickel by common folk so the three judge panel (Me, myself & I) also have decided to include the one who provided that answer with the list of correct answers.

not to be a party pooper nickelman, but NOWHERE on ANY of these coins does it say ONE NICKEL. The US MINT has NEVER made a NICKEL, and that is what your contest asked. Had you asked Nickel coin, or coin made of nickel, then your answers would be correct.

Since this is a site that tries to spread numismatic knowledge I felt it important to post the inaccuracy of your answers.

I abide by your rules, and the contest winner is indeed deserving and final by the rules. I am not posting this in order to have my answers re-considered, just in the interest of accuracy.

Not sure if you got mine as I was writing it during the server switch over.
    1.Shield nickel(with rays) unless u count 3c nickels
2.Shield nickel 1866-1883 (no rays 1866-1867 with rays 1867-1883) although Breen 1988 states an 1865 prototype proof.
    3.Felix Schlag-rev Jamie Frankie-obv
    4.2006-current
5.Nickel originates from German 'kupfernickel' (copper demon) or false copper due to the deceptive copper color of the ore and its hardness. AKA copper of the devil.

In the US, the term "nickel" or "nick" originally was applied to the copper-nickel Indian cent in 1859. Later, used on the three-cent coin in 1865, and the following year shield nickel rec'd the designation, and still remains. Coins of pure nickel were first used in 1881(Switzerland)

    Interesting factoids:
    Nickel was discovered in 1751
Nickel will shrink slightly if placed in a magnetic field.

Thanks for the contest, Nick the Noost

    Sorry Mikenoodle,

The panel thought over your answers long and hard but althought a U.S. mint has never minted a coin with the word nickel on it, the term nickel has been used by the public since the first copper-nickel coins where produced.
The U.S. Mint even refers to the current 5 cent peice as a nickel and promoted the 2004 & 2005 as the Westward Nickel Series not Westward 5Cent Piece Series?

Just got my Jefferson Nickel coin album and I love it! There was a 57, 63d, 64d, and a 05p included! This is actually my first "us mint" holder so I was actually pretty impressed. Thanks again for the great contest!

Do you guys want me to post pictures?
