Looks like the House and the Senate have both approved this bill, so as long as the President signs it, it will become law and the new series will start in 2019...
Different versions so either the house has to pass the senate version or they have to resolve the differences and both approve the conference committee's report.
The House bill called for the coins to be released Alphabetically. The Senate version was changed in order of admission to the Union. Back to the House for approval.
Naturally, they came up with the original bill. Who cares if it's released alphabetically or by admission to the Union?
If they don't circulate no one is going to know or care. "We're making a new dollar coin!" "We aren't releasing them." "You have to buy them for more than face value." Sounds like a commemorative to me.
Let's order by the 4th from the right letter in the states name and the decade of admission to the union. So Delaware in 1787 would be w8. New York, also 1787 would be y8. At least make people use their education for something...
That's what my update was about. They both agreed to the order that the coins would be released so now it's just the Presidential Signature that's needed.
Next time we send aid to a foreign country we can ship them a billion dollar coins that are taking up warehouse space. "What are we supposed to do with these?" "It's money. Spend them."
I wish the bill would get vetoed as a waste of time and money, which the coins will be. Please note: My comment is based upon my opinion of the value of the coins (which, as you might guess, is zilch). No political intent is here so please keep your politics in your pocket if you’re tempted to go in that direction. Thanks!
As a limited edition commem. 300,000 mintage (proof), its prob a profit making situation. But minting millions of these coins and not circulating them is dumb.
Just noticed that the President signed this bill on July 20, so it has now officially become law. https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/115/hr770
They will make 5 million or so of each design. This is based on how many dollar coins they have been making in recent years for the Mint sets, proof sets, roll sets, and bag sales. You may say it's dumb but when they can sell them to collectors for way more than it costs them to produce them, why would they stop?
