Although I haven't been consciously trying to acquire the 'ladies', it seems I now have accumulated 22 examples with this last purchase.... LOL Recently, I purchased an Agrippina and now a Theodora---the second wife of Constantius I (Chlorus), not the wife of Justinian. This Theodora ( Flavia Maximiana Theodora) is often referred to as the stepdaughter of Emperor Maximian although not all historians agree. In 293 AD, Theodora married Constantius Chlorus after he divorced his first wife Helena (mother of Constantine the Great) to strengthen his political position. They had six children, among them: Flavius Dalmatius; Julius Constantius (Father of Emperor Julian the Apostate); Hannibalianus; Anastasia (married Bassianus); Flavia Julia Constantia (Wife of Emperor Licinius); and Eutropia, (mother of Nepotianus)---most of whom did not fare well under subsequent imperial purges after Constantine's death. Please feel free to post any of the 'Ladies' that you have or recently acquired... Theodora, 337-340 AD, Trier Mint AE-14 mm, 1.04 grams, RIC 65 Bust right; Pietas left, holding child

Nice, here is mine: Theodora (337-340 A .D.) AE4 Obv: FL MAX THEODORAE AVG. diademed and draped bust right. Rev: PIETAS ROMANA. Pietas standing right holding child in her arms. (Exergue obscured.) 14mm 1.6g Sear 3911
I have two Theodoras which illustrate the 'problem' with her coins. The first is TRP like Mikey and Gil missing the head of Pietas while the second is, as Mat put it, "exergue obscured". I almost never buy coins without mintmarks but that second one is as nice as Theodora portraits get in anything approaching my price range for things I really don't collect. This clarity level with mintmark would be $200+. I paid $20. What mintmark is mine missing? Trier is most common for her.
Here's one on a full flan Theodora, AE4 Posthumous issue under the reigns of the sons of Constantine the great Trier mint, 2nd officina FL MAX THEODORAE AVG, draped and diademed bust right PIETAS ROMANA, Pietas standing holding child. TRS at exergue 1.54 gr Ref : Cohen # 4, Roman coins # 3911 Q
Note how different are the portraits we have for this one lady. Q's has fat face; my second one is abnormally thin.
Nice coins everyone, and a very strong strike on yours Mikey. Here's mine, and like most others has its problems. The only problem that really bothers me with this coin is that I can't make out the mint mark.
Sweet lookin' chick-coin, Mikey-Z (oh, and congrats on having 22 ladies!!) ... ... sadly, I don't have a Theodora (*sigh*)
Twenty-two ladies and not one will talk to me LOL Great posts guys!!! I wasn't aware there were so many different portrait styles, as Doug points out, or that they almost all seem to have the same 'issues'.---- My modest little coin was a relatively inexpensive FORUM auction win at $23.00 that I couldn't pass up...
WHAAAAT. They don't talk to you? That's a dream buddy. The women around me never stop talking. Yak yak yak..... (Sorry PP and TIF)
=> atta-boy, Mikey-Z!! ... talkin' is often highly over-rated => when you da' coin-bachelor!! ... I only have "15" Roman ladies in my coin-harem
The amount of makeup on just one of those gals would last me the full show run of a musical...and that's saying something. IDK guys, it looks like the engravers were not too worried about her wrath, those portraits are "generously sized."
great portrait on that theodora MZ! i don't have one of her to post either. in fact i haven't picked up any ladies for a long time. im not sure why.
Sure, and did you notice how lips and chin are engraved on mine ? They look like three dots made with a drill Q
I looked up the work "Beuark", but only found in the French dictionary as "bark". Did you mean it as 'woof woof"?
