Wow! NGC really goofed this one up LOL. How can this coin be graded any higher than AU-58 with major damage. Resulting with a net grade of XF. What in all my years of looking at Morgans, what am I missing??? Chinese Fake slab!! They are everywhere! BEWARE!! I hope you did not pay 66 $ on this one. Wow DJ, I really thought you had a great eye for Morgans. (No disrespect) ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
See my post above, this coin is not damaged. It may be overgraded by a point but NGC would not have graded it at all if it was damaged. It is not a fake slab either, by the way. I happen to like the toning on this coin a lot and it is for my personal collection.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! Thats all that matters. I am just upset because I believe that coin to be harshly cleaned, & NGC should not have graded it. IMO I could maybe see if it was a super rare date. I guess I come from the old school, & it is hard to see coins like this and many others graded by PCGS & NGC. People put a lot of trust in them!
I see where you're coming from, but I have the advantage in this case having seen it in hand. The coin has not been cleaned in any manner whatsoever...it just has a unique toning pattern because of the fingerprint(s).
DJ - you see these right here, they were absolutely not made by nor are they the result of a fingerprint. I'm not trying to push this my young friend, I simply want to make sure that you are not misinformed. You buy nice coins DJ, you own many. But please, for your own sake, don't let yourself be fooled into thinking that these marks are the result of a fingerprint causing the toning to tone that way. They are scratches in the toning, where somebody or something has rubbed the toning off the coin. Fingerprints don't make straight lines.
Oy... I am looking at the coin in hand as I type this and I assure you the toning has not been scraped off and the surface is not damaged. For whatever reason - probably due to surface contaminants of some type...i.e. fingerprints and/or something else - parts of the coin just did not tone. I mean no disrespect Doug and I appreciate your concern, but I am not misinformed and I know what it looks like when toning has been scraped off. The surface would show it and the surface of this coin is perfect. Whatever you're seeing that makes you think the toning has been scraped off is either an artifact of the original image or from blowing it way up. BTW claw, when it comes down to it I don't care what the plastic says. I buy coins on their own merits and if I think the coin is overgraded I don't buy the coin. That being said I still appreciate your opinions and comments, and if I came across as rude I apologize.
