If you have some time don't forget to make your votes on the Jumbo Nickel thread @Lehigh96 please go and learn something about FS Jeffersons. Anyways, I picked this one up the other day. I have to admit I picked the heck out of this shop, no luck. This was the first coin I looked at. The owner gave me a good deal. The slab is my fourth. No poll on this one.
AU50 is what I would call it. Please don't be offended but it's looks pretty scuffy to my eye. Is that an ANACS Cache holder?
Soapbox holder? Probably undergraded. I have no idea. Tons of bag marks. Excellent luster. I've been fooled big time on weak strikes that are UNC. 8TFs do not grow on trees. Nice coin for sure. I'll take it, pm me for shipping instructions.
Is this one of those unicorn MS 60 that had a hard life inside of a bank bag but survived human hands? I'm almost certain this is a trick GTG. When a coin has this much luster yet has toning and a little banging around, I'm clueless on the grade. You are pretty sneaky, so final answer. (Also, based on your posting history, you do not buy junk)
I am surprised it looks like only one person has VAMed this coin. And it isn't attributed on the slab. I will probably wait till tomorrow to revael the grade.
I purposely didn't even think about looking for that.(VAMs). 1878 and 1879 years have more permutations than a usually sane person wants to deal with. But Big Pharma needs to sell their migraine meds.
MS 61 ....I could see 60 to 62 and decided to go in the middle....lots of bag marks/chatter; given that it's one of the older ANA slabs, I think it could be a fairly conservative grade (and now I'm wondering if 61 is rarer than seeing 60 but I will stick with my guess)
I think MS 60 is even rarer than MS61. I almost never see a coin graded right on that 60 line. There should be bonus value for catching that unicorn by the horn.
