The term "GEM" is for MS65 and above. Please learn to use the correct terms. You could say, "over-graded", "damaged", etc., but not "gem".

I have seen a lot of inaccurate knee jerk reactions and judgments in a lot of situations, if toning is significant and thick it is "terminal" and environmental damage; if someone is critical though honest, they are punched back with various slurs, even "mentally ill" or "clinically depressed". With the internet this type of excess criticism is accentuated. I trust the graders in this case; not a "cac" coin but not a damaged one either.

Actually, I understood the OP's usage perfectly. Although "gem" would have clearly indicated his point that the coin is not one. :p

But toning and tarnish are the same thing, just different thicknesses of the corrosion layer. One can be "pretty " due to thin film interference and the other is considered ugly and often called damage. The layer on this coin is not attractive but I don't believe it has reached the point of etching the surfaces. What strikes me is that the detail is actually much better than what I often see the TPG's call an AG. (I've seen pieces called Fine that don't have rims as good as this coin has.

I think it was net-graded due to the scratches on the reverse

Thanks @Insider and everyone else for their insight on this coin. You all have made discussing this coin extremely interesting. I still think there’s something “off” about the Coin’s appearance, something that looks unnatural, but I can’t put my finger on it.

I hope if I live to be as ancient as @BooksB4Coins I will develop such legendary skill and talent for creating snide and condescending replies on message boards.

Or better yet, hopefully you'll live long enough to realize you're going to get more out of life by taking things in stride and/or laughing along than you ever will by lamely playing victim. While this is true in a general sense, it is particularly so for someone who doesn't think twice about hurling his own insults or spewing BS.

Ugly yet straight graded coins residing in top plastic is a common thing. Deal with it. Admitting as much isn't a personal attack or insult, but is just acknowledging a simple reality. If you don't like it, don't buy them. Easy peasy.

LOL I wasn’t even playing the victim. I’m still laughing, @BooksB4Coins. I just am studying so I can be as condescending and snide as you! You’re the expert! No offense taken! :D

Interesting side-note, when I first joined this Forum , that was my knee-jerk reaction to the first BooksB4Coins post that I read. After sticking around for awhile I realized 2 things: 1. Everything isn’t about me. In fact, very little was about me, since I was new and nobody really knew me yet, and
    2. Books tells it how it is.
And by the way, here’s my 2 Cents: 2EA526BE-9244-4BE0-9E50-D7CB723555E0.jpeg
