Thank you for that Wiki link as it was actually a very enjoyable read of his life .. I too had always believed that Barnum's most famous quote was " a sucker is born every minute", so reading that wiki link was an enlightenment.. That being said, I have read in many threads over the years that the buyers of Dans pieces were indeed suckers or fools to buy such pieces .. If that becomes fact then I'll state here and now that I'm the biggest fool of the bunch as I currently have a middle sized SDB that is stuffed to the brim with DC pieces and that is them only being in 2x2 flips ... I'm actually waiting for a larger box to become available, so that I can stuff it some more .. Though I have had a small collection of coins since being a kid, it is in the past 4 years that I actively started putting any serious money into coins , bullion and tokens .. I would guess that 90% of my collection is made up solely of DC pieces and the remaining 10% of everything else available.. I don't collect any specific set and mostly just what I like and can afford at that moment .. The one thing that I do collect with a passion are DC items.. What most of Dans attackers hate about his work are many of the things that attract me to it Unfortunately most of his attackers focus only on his Over Strike pieces and forget about all of his other creations. We all like and dislike different things in this world, but I will never go out of my way to make someone feel bad about their preference..
Eddie, All Dan did was what I could have done in 5-10 minutes yesterday if I was at home on my computer as opposed to being at the beach with my family on my IPhone .. Obviously you think your little quips are cute or funny, but you really are just looking to stir the pot .. Now you have resulted to name calling as in "Stalker". Every time a new message is entered in this thread do you not receive a red bubble alert ?? Well if it was your creations that were being discussed don't you think that you would take an interest in what was being said about them ?? I have followed DC threads for about 4 years over multiple forums and am amazed that Dan can keep his cool in defending his work from so many attackers .. I actually admire that he calmly answers questions about the entire process .. One thing for sure about the Internet forums and Social sites is that it has created a kingdom of keyboard warriors .. I can't say all, but I think most would never say some of the things they do in a face to face situation.. IMHO I have no personal grievances towards you or any of the others, but the attacks and name calling really should stop ..
Don't you just realize what he just did, what he just spent his time on? And you're preoccupied with it, too, you'd have done the same thing? Then I guess you don't realize it. Realize this, some of us don't agree with you and Dan. Get used to it.
That's where you are clearly confused as it's not just Dan and I you are offending .. Nobody is asking you or the others to collect these pieces, but we would appreciate if the mud slinging would just end .. We don't have to agree on the subject . I didn't need to go back and find your quotes from the past, but I clearly remembered your screen name and the content of your past remarks .. I have read many threads over multiple forums that are not related to DC as its how I learn to invest in things that I am unfamiliar .. That's called getting a free education and also getting the pulse of the coin and bullion market.. I obviously pay the most attention to the DC related threads as its the bulk of my collection.. Quite frankly the real counterfeiters out there are getting so good that I am afraid to buy most coins unless they are from only the most reputable of firms .. It's a scary market nowadays and I am not an expert in any specific set of US coins .. I am however very knowledgeable when it comes to DC issues, so I feel the most comfortable putting my money there
You were the one that asked (Bigpoppa) to "Be specific in your allegations, or drop them.". Realizing that he was at the beach (as per his comment in this thread) and may not have been able to oblige, I spent a few minutes and looked up a few instances.
In the thread here titled "Just got the elusive 1916 Barber Half...." your entire post was: I don't see how there has been any "divorcing of the post from the context". But if you feel inclined, now is an opportunity to expain the "context" and what you meant by the above quoted post. PS: Just because someone knowingly collects something that another person doesn't like and/or doesn't understand, that doesn't mean the collector deserves to be shown disdain for their collecting choices.
Around the first of the month, my D. Carr Barber over strikes arrived. The satin and proof finish Barbers, and two of the high grade liberty nickels. The old date is very apparent on one of my V nickels, and you can see the original date, 1902, the second V nickel has the original date of 1905. This isn't a complaint, I just thought it was neat you could see the date. On the Barbers, I really can't tell where the old date was positioned, as opposed to the nickels.
Well, its a crying shame that he ruined two perfectly good coins to make those counterfeits. At least we know what coins he destroyed, so we can subtract them from the population.
I have no opinions one way or the other...but can you really counterfeit that which did not exist in the first place?
fasteddy needs to get off his high horse...this is a hobby A hobby is a regular activity that is done for enjoyment, typically during one's leisure time. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hobby So myself and other like DC products, US mint products, foreign mint products, elongated coins, wood nickels, hobo etc. it's a hobby
After seeing this thread I jumped on one of the 1910-D Indian Cents. I can't wait to have it in hand!
No, he is right-- you are looking for a battle, and are being gratuitously insulting to Daniel Carr. If you don't like his work, why bother with the endless quips and sarcastic repartee?
That's interesting, although I think I like the silver coins better. The date probably shows on the nickels because nickel is so much harder than silver, so I suppose that makes sense.
You just can't take constructive criticism, that's your problem. You can't challenge what I say, so you challenge how I say it. We don't always have to agree with the status quo, Morgandude11. Deal with it.
