I've been purchasing every ATB 5 oz P issued with the goal of putting together a complete set but I'm starting to get bored with it. Does anyone see an upside on these down the road???
Only if silver goes up...I did see the Roosevelt 5 oz. at the mint the other day. Really looked nice but not nice enough to buy.
It's definitely a mixed bag - some are real nice but there are a lot of poor designs. I do like the Shenandoah and Blue Ridge Parkway (enough with the birds already). It's getting costly and they take up a lot of room but I guess there are far worse things to spend ones money on.
I like the Hawaii and the Maryland designs, but I wouldn't count on these as anything but bullion unfortunately
I like these for their uber low mintages for silver coins. With mintages this low, any increase in demand down the road will make them a wise investment. If interested in buying bullion, these or the bullion version are the "no brainer" choice over SAE's, given the latter's high mintage.
There is potential; for example, the 2012 Hawaii "P" version sells for a premium. On the other hand, many of the 2010s sell for under issue price (and it doesn't help that they were released at a time when spot silver was much higher). So, you could get lucky and have another Hawaii scenario or most could stay at issue price or slightly lower (depending on spot). The bullion versions are slightly less risky. The premium is lower (and usually close to the premium for silver eagles). Collecting the bullion versions may be a better play as you can stack for the silver content with the potential for numismatic appreciation.
Moultrie just shipped for me too. I have gained some insight into General Moultrie after reading a book about the Swamp Fox (Francis Marion).
