I almost picked up a very nice FH from Thessalonica, but ended up missing out. I kind of lucked out. Im not a fan of the style of earlier issues from Thessalonica and would have ended up with a high quality coin that I didn't enjoy looking at as much. I ended up get a cheaper example (much cheaper) and I think I'll be happier in the long run. It's a decent example I think. DN CONSTAN-TIVS PF AVG, pearl-diademed, draped, cuirassed bust right, A behind/FEL TEMP RE-PARATIO soldier spearing Horseman, Phrygian helmet, sitting on ground, arm(s) up, A in left field, TS Delta in ex Thessalonica 129 scarce.
Very nice.. I have one too but mine has a very flat and characterless patina which makes it less appealing than a more glossy patina. Though they are rates Scarce they seem more available than later issues though that could just be that I haven't been looking long enough to gather a scientific opinion. I have seen quite a few on the market in the last year alone. Here is a slightly later RIC VIII Thessalonica 180 which seems to have more style about the portrait somehow. Martin
Thanks. There does seem to be a lot more popping up in the last few years, even for Constans, and a lot of nicer silvered ones too. Mine still has some silvering, as well as my Constans. Are they from a hoard or did that just have more silvering?
