Looks like the 2019 Native American dollar coin will also have a space theme. The article isn't clear if there's any tie-in to the Moon Landing anniversary, or if it's just coincidence. http://news.coinupdate.com/united-s...sign-for-2019-native-american-1-coin-reverse/
I guess I'll have to buy one now. Odd design, though they are celebrating American Indians in the Space Program. I just hope they have a Proof one as I don't want an uncirc version.
Twice in the last 20 years they claimed I did not return the coins and I ended up having to pay for coins I never kept. When they send the bulk ads in the mail with UNC cents in the envelope, I throw away without removing the coin. Free coins from them I do not want.
Ok, enough with the Littleton hijack.... back to the topic at hand.... The Native American series has been in the proof sets every year since they started. There have even been one or two reverse proofs or Enhanced Uncirculated issues.... I have the whole series (so far)....

Have to admit the design is better than many of the mints designs, but if you didn't already know ahead of time what the purpose of the design was it wouldn't make any sense.
I agree on both points. I kinda like the astronaut poking his head in while hanging onto the coin but the placement of the "I" in America in relation to his hand is unfortunate.
Ha! Was just going to point that out until I saw your post. This coin is amazing -- creeper astronaut and a sly salute to boot.
Looks more like a Chuck E Cheese token than a U.S. coin, especially with that terrible font on the $1. I assume the two sets of initials means whatever committee was governing this decided to combine two completely different designs. It's way too noisy - remove the lady, math equation, and stars (?) and you'd get something halfway decent.
Most likely one is the designer and the other in the engraver. They have been doing that on a lot of coins lately.
