Another 2016 want-list coin acquired (Cherronesos Hemicrachm)

In December, 2015, I made a want list of coins I wanted for 2016. Before today I had acquired a few from that list: A Gordian III double denarius, a Flavian denarius, and a black sea gorgon themed coin.

Well, today I can tick another box from that list. I just purchased this coin, a Thracian Cherronesos lion hemidrachm. Seller's picture is included for your viewing pleasure.

    Lion Cherronesos Thrace Hemidrachm.jpg

This one kills three birds with one stone:

    • Coin from want-list for 2016
    • Lion
    • Lizard
I know this is not a coin most of you would consider that exciting, but I'm pretty happy to add a humble example of one to my mediocre collection.

Still need to aquire a Flavius Victor Siliqua, I have one that I'm looking at. Now I'm just waiting to replenish my funds and for the pound to fall if Brexit occurs.
Oh and nice coin! I have none of the type

Thank you TIF. To be honest, I'm not sure how my coin stacks up against the usual samples, all I know is that I've wanted the type since I started collecting ancients back in October, and I am extremely excited to finally have one on the way. I tried to get the nicest one I could find on the market that's within my coin budget, and this is what I came away with. I'm thrilled.

Is that a "B" in the left quadrant on the reverse, or just the photo playing tricks with me?

    Doesn't have a lizard :(

To my eyes, it's two little deposits on the metal which caused lack of toning in that area. It does look like a B but there is nothing inscribed on the metal based on the description from dealer and what I can see in the picture...just an unfortunate deposit. There is another deposit next to the lizard that seems to be causing the same effect, but it's a single one so it just looks like a spot. Even if it was grafitty (which I doubt) oh well, no coin that old is perfect. I don't mind.

Great coin. I like monograms. Is VE a die mark or initials for a person or place. I see by Matt's coin VE is paired with at least two symbols.

Gorgeous OP-score ... yah, the lizard is all that!! (congrats)

I merely have a humble example of this sweet coin-type (I'm sure that one day I'll try to upgrade) ... but for now, this coin will do

Sallent, your new coin certainly has a lot of eye appeal going for it and I can understand why you acquired it. Well done!

    Fantastic coin nevertheless, congrats

Even though it's still the best I've ever seen (so jealous...)
