Back in 2008/2009 there was something like a run on 1809 dimes. You may have had this with a particular coin you were after? No matter how hard you looked, you just couldn't find one. And, I really wanted one. I don't know why this was - somebody hoarding is one possibility. Another cause may have been a collector in the PCGS forum really hyping the date. A kind soul on this forum finally let me know he'd seen one for sale. I contacted the dealer, and soon, there it was. This example. As you can see, it's got issues, a gash and minor scratches. But hey, I finally had my 1809 dime. The things collectors do when they really want something... Couple of years later I found a nicer one, but, you know, I'm still keeping this one.
