    Me too for "everyday" drinking, the chateauneuf is for special occasions. :D

    I completely agree!!

    I still remember my first taste of a Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Suddenly the flowery and ridiculous verbiage of wine reviews made sense. It was incredible! Wish I could remember the vineyard and year. I do remember calling all local wine shops the next day and buying every single bottle I could find in a twenty mile radius. There were only six :(.

    I'm a fan of 7 Deadly Zin's! A nice concoction of 7 fruity Zin's with a black cherry finish, that is a great excuse to tell the wife why you pulled the trigger on that expensive new coin. The devil made me do it!

    Sorry to be late but I was not coining last evening when these would have been appropriate. The first is a stater or didrachm I have had for a long time (ex Stacks). g01740b00451lg.JPG

    The other two are hemidrachms. First is older (4th century BC?).
    g01730bb1598.jpg
    Last is from the later series (2nd century BC?) with magistrate names in tiny letters. You'll see these called 'Plinthophoric' which is fancy-speak for bearing an incuse square. As I understand the matter, these were made for over a century until hard times and wars with King Mithradates bankrupted the city and forced them to issue even their high denomination coins in base metal. That is where we got Steve's treasure. Mine seems to read Aexagoras which is a name I have not seen so I may have it wrong. There are a lot of them and many are hard to read with tiny letters and lower grade surfaces.

    Man, I always enjoy seeing these coins from Rhodes. :D With that relief, they really did the 3/4 portrait well. Modern coins that attempt this, like US presidential dollars are nowhere close...

    The one above is a tetradrachm, c. 380 BCE

    Oh my => the NFL games are about to start ...

    Ummm, does anybody else in Coin-Land like this Sunday tradition? (Bing, Mikey-Z?)

    God help this year's 49ers ... I love 'em ... but I miss the good ol' days

    What do you think I do on Sundays. And Saturdays for that matter. Yeah, I miss Joe too. One of the very best. There are some teams I could never (strong word) follow, but the 49ers has always been one of my favorites.

    Not sure if anybody watched that game, but "wow" => what a great game!! (well, bad outcome, but great football game) ... the 49ers looked good last night (although they lost, I'm "hoping" that this was a turning-point in their season?!!)

    ... congrats to the Giants (man, I hate E-Manning, but he does seem to get 'er done!!)

    Final => SF 27-30 NYG

    Oh, and how 'bout dem Blue Jays?!! (that's Baseball ... they won last night, but they're behind in the series 2-1 versus Texas)

    => yup, it's a great time of year to be a pro-sports-fan!!

    BTW, it was a wonderful Sunday of football...and my Jets didn't lose!!!!

    Of course, they didn't play either--a 'BYE' week for them at the surprising record of 3-1....Naturally, I'm waiting for the roof to fall LOL

    Mikey ... man, it's a weird year where your Jets are all that, and my poor 49ers are cellar-dwellars ...

    Yah actually, you guys have looked pretty good (Ryan Fitzpatrick & Gino ... who knew, eh?)

    oops => and a coin ...
