Johnny was a chemist's son but Johnny is no more. What Johnny thought was H2O was H2SO4.

I just got that Bauer book. I have only read the first few pages but I can tell I am going to enjoy it and learn a lot. I am still enjoying Dan Jone's The Templars,The Rise and Spectacular Fall of G-d's Holy Warriors. It's great!

I can't wait to see what Byzantine gold coins you select for your collection, @Curtisimo.

What instrument do you play? I am a bit of a band geek as well.

Nice collection of instruments. It was the Glockenspiel for me.

At least you tried. When I ask my students if they play an instrument the number of affirmative responses is about 1/100. I do not know what I would do if I was not surrounded by several musical instruments. I find it very relaxing.

I take an Historical approach to collecting, and do not consider myself a numismatist. Just a person who has a fun hobby that transcends my interests...

    I enjoy collecting Coins of:
    - Roman Republic
    - Roman Republic pre-denarii
    - Central Italia
    - Carthage
    - Diodachi / Alexandrine
    - Etruria
    - Ancient China
    - Coins from Ancient Critical Junctures in Human History
    - Have around 145 of the Roman Rulers, but that is for teaching / creating interest with my Grandkids. I really do not "collect" them.
    - Interesting new target may be CELTIC COINAGE
    - I collect Cool Coins that "grab" me
    - Royal Egyptian Scarabae
    - Humpty Dumpty for my Grandkids (fun)

Love my Wife, 6 Daughters, 6 Grandkids; consumer products provider and manufacturing for 40 years; have lived "everywhere" (it seems); enormous amount of travel over my career(s); Have been in many natural disasters or unusual situations that folks "do not believe" - but, hey, I will eventually go to my grave with a wonderful smile on my face! :D

My Blue makes all the collecting decisions...

Her tail is always a-wagging, and she truly has a smile on her face all the time.
    Happy Dawg.

I love your dog, Alegandron! My childhood pet was a beagle named “Dandy.”

I love your beautiful coins too!

Amazingly, I just caught this thread today and I LOVED all the posts!!! Please consider ALL 'liked' to the highest degree!!

I'm racing toward my 67th birthday and early retired at 62. I'm currently living on Long Island, NY. Like so many others of my generation, the draft played a major role in my life, convincing me to join the Air Force by February 1970 after my second 1-A pre-induction physical and spending the next four years working as Security Police K-9. Taking advantage of my VA benefits, after military separation, I attended College/University earning a Masters in Public policy/International Relations and then spent my last working decade in private industry. And like so many of us, I was always fascinated by History and finally started collecting Modern and Ancient coins by the late 1980's, selling them and returning to collecting 'Ancients'---as a generalist---January, 2015.

Among many other things, this coin represents my primary interest in Ancients---the time period and all that followed in the centuries yet to come; Siculo-Punic:

Silver tetradrachm, Jenkins Punic 394 (O120/R322); SNG CopVIII 91; Dewing 983; SGCV II 6438; HGC 2 295, NGC Choice VF, strike 4/5, surface 5/5 (3819620-001), Sicilian mint, weight 17.03g, maximum diameter 23mm, die axis 225o, 300 - 289 B.C.; obverse head of Herakles right, clad in lion's scalp; reverse horse's head left, palm tree behind, Punic inscription MHSBM (paymasters) below.

I'm Macromius. My friends call me Jake. Not much to say...just another old guy coin collector. I come from an Air Force family so I lived all over the place growing up. One of my hobbies is Macro Photography. I use a flash which doesn't really flatter the coins since it can flatten out the relief and bring out every flaw. (Others here take way more elegant pictures.) I also collect folk art bottle stoppers and other antiques. The ones pictured here are missing their corks. Cheers!

    Still researching this one...

Most of you know a bit about me, but I don't have much to say about myself. I am currently a student at Georgia Tech. I am studying aerospace engineering, and am currently on my second semester of a Co-Op with HondaJet. Next semester, I will be studying at Georgia Tech's French campus, which I am quite excited about. What I want to do with my major has been continuously morphing as I find my passion, but I think I want to either work for an airline (repairs and general improvements) or the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).

    IMG_0312.JPG

Some of my other interests include music (see my earlier picture with all of my instruments), drawing, history, and fossil collecting (my specialties are trilobites and ammonites).

    IMG_9891.JPG
    IMG_8348.JPG

I collect both ancients and modern US coins. In the ancients, I specialize in Pre-Tang Dynasty Chinese Coins, though I am a generalist in other areas of the ancient world. This is currently my favorite Chinese coin:
