While this certainly leads to a bit of a mess on the reverse the obverse is aligned in such a way to make for a very pleasant synthesis in my opinion. This is a large and hefty coin at 28 mm that looks and feels great in hand.</p><p><br /></p><p>The type is pretty interesting too. The ship’s prow on the obverse is none other than the Argo of Jason and the Golden Fleece fame. Kyzikos had a traditional connection with the mythological expedition of the Argonauts and celebrated it on some of their coin types. I will go into more detail in the future when I have a chance to do a proper write-up on this coin. The reverse under-type of a butting bull might have been a reference to a statue in Kyzikos mentioned by Athenaeus.[/QUOTE]</p><p><br /></p>
