Ancients => today's CNG score => $45 (seriously? ... yup, a sweet under estimate score)

I was looking at a more expensive animal coin in CNG e-auction 343. Lot 81, a nice Larissa drachm with an impressive head of Larissa on the obverse and mother mare and her foal on the reverse:

I was in up to about $450, but it went for $575 + 15%. Rats!

BTW, several of my coins should appear in CNG e-auction 344. I'll post the lot numbers, so everyone can bid ridiculously high...;)

Note that its previous outing at the same house was as part of a bulk lot. I have to wonder if someone realized that the coin was better than belonged in a group lot or if they had to agree not to group coins to get the sale. I do know consigners who have stopped using a house over having their coins offered as groups when they thought it inappropriate. I used to be of the opinion that a good place to buy coins was the lesser offerings of the better houses since most of their patrons would be too good to want such a 'lesser' item. The ridiculous raise in buyer's fees pretty well takes care of that. In all honesty, I did not know CNG ever lotted coins at this low a price.

Part of the reason why I don't buy from CNG is the price. Every time I see the name I think high priced coins I can't afford. And I also dislike buyer's fees so unless it's something one of a kind I don't really bid on it.

ancientnut => man, that's a gorgeous target (too bad the price went too high!!)

... I love the foal in the background (very cool)

Oh, and obviously the 3/4-facing obverse is super cool as well (want list)
