Hiya Steve, Now i know you a little bit better. Nice coins With animals the bc coins are very cool Go ahead egaele
While I do like many of the coins, 'drive up' is the main reason I'll not be dropping in on Steve this month. It is a long way to the window from here and I fear the weather may be too much for the sleigh. Besides, lumps of coal are dispensed by the other side of the operation.
You still need to buy at least on more to get it on Jan. 2. This way you can call it the first coin purchase of 2015.
Hey Steve get that world coin out of our Ancient section. there's not one i wouldn't love to have. couldn't pick just one...love them all..
Favorites in order? Hmm, that's tough. #1 for me is the Alexandrian drachm with A-Pi with Serapis and friends strutting down the runway. Kicking myself for not buying that. Your Thessaly obol with Athena/Horse head is fantastic. Other faves: Feb7, the medieval knight (don't remember anything about the attribution); June 25 bronze with funny-looking man/bull (blanking on the attribution on that one too); Aug 23 AE Tyche/car of Astarte.
June 25, Ebusus with the crazy Kabeiros is the one I really wish I had. But what a yearful of great coins. Bravo!
Are we supposed to show only our favorite 61 coins of the year? I'll hold off a couple weeks for the inevitable top ten of the year. That gives time to figure out which of the coins I still like and which were mistakes. Maybe we should have a top ten 'what was I thinking' thread.
Fortunately, I only have one "what was I thinking" coin out of all the year's purchases, so I might be improving. It's the coins that I've sold that really make me say, "What was I thinking??"
I just checked and I purchased a total of 44 coins this year. Most are coins of meager value, while a few are worth every penny I paid and then some. My favorite is awfully hard to choose, but the Vespasian once belonging to the John Quincy Adams collection and the MN. Fonteius Roman Republic Denarius with the Jugate heads of the Dioscuri have to be near the top.
I've closed out my collecting year too, so I've just done a count... Last year, I picked up 164 coins and hoped to slow down and buy significantly fewer in 2014. I finished up with 166... epic fail, I guess. On the bright side, I've got a whole bunch of nice coins to play with while I mull over my resolution for 2015.
