(December 23rd) #3 Pisidia, Selge AR Stater 325-250 BC Diameter: 24.1 mm Weight: 9.43 grams Obverse: Two wrestlers grappling, K between Reverse: Slinger; triskels above, club and cornucopia right Reference: Other: Obverse die slightly corroded, gorgeous dark toning SIDENOTE: I scored this beautifully toned winna from my favourite seller (the dude rocks!!) ... and although there is a wee bit of die-corrosion on the obverse, which gives the one wrestler a bit of a helmet, I absolutely love the eye-appeal of this coin ... yup, there is a whole bunch of stuff goin' on => a triskels, a club and a cornucopia on the reverse!! ... again, the sweet toning on this big AR coin is wonderful (so wonderful, I posted two coin photos of this baby)
Sad? Disappointed. I know some of the coins you got this year that have not made it to 3-10. Can it be Steve will post his #1 as a Looney proof? Well, they are animals and Canadian. Please, Steve, say it isn't so.
Hey, I just got off work a bit early, but we're about to go blow-off-some-steam at Pub-55 (55th Parallel) Yah, I'm not sure if I've thanked you guys enough during 2016? => Hey, although I've never actually met any of you coin-dudes in the real-world, I consider some of you to be among my best real-world friends!! Cheers
Whenever we hear about the evils of the Internet and how much better it was in the old days when people read books by the light of a fire, lets also remember that only recently can a guy like me find people to talk to about coins that happen to live thousands of miles away but are what we are proud to call friends. I once met one of my Internet friends from the UK when he was travelling for business but the chances of my ever seeing the 55th parallel are considerably less than any of you can imagine.
I'll take that as a "cheers" from you, Mentor (thanks for giving me a bit of your coin-knowledge) ... oh, but more importantly, thanks for encouraging me to blindly venture into the coin abyss!! Coin-friends, eh? ... Hmmm ... at this point in my life and at this point in technology = a real possibilty
Ajax, thanks man ... Yah, I like hearing that I'm heading in the correct direction ... ... as long as I keep listening to you dudes, things should be fine (what could go wrong?) => Full steam ahead, my friends!!
(December 24th) #2 SICILY, Akragas. Æ Hemilitron Late 5th century BC Diameter: 28 mm Weight: 14.71 grams Obverse: Eagle standing right, tearing at hare Reverse: Crab; six pellets around, crayfish below; c/m: head of Herakles right, wearing lion’s skin, within circular incuse Reference: For undertype: cf. HGC 2, 136; for c/m: CNS 107 CM SIDENOTE: Yah, I flip-flopped back and forth between tomorrow's #1 pageant winner and this runner-up #2nd choice ... obviously, I absolutely "love" both coins!! This coin mixes two of my favourite coin-avenues => it's a winner from Sicily (one of my cool coin side-collections), plus it's an amazing counter-stamp (another one of my favourite coin side-avenues) This is a sweet big chunky animal-coin, with a very cool counter-stamp of Herc wearing a lion headdress (yup, that "stuff" never gets old, eh?) => crab, crayfish, rabbit, eagle!! ... and then Herc with a fricken lion hat!! Fantastic coin, if I do say so myself!!
You know this is one of my favorites so I suspect #1 will be, too. Now, I have something to look forward to besides the lump of coal I usually get.
yah, I was assuming that you wanted this baby to be #1 ... oh, and as I stated above, it was a neck-and-neck photo-finish!! Sadly, I should have made this a Best of "15", for I have another 5 coins that shoulda/coulda/wouda made this thread, but didn't ... Like everything in life ... I'm sure that I'll disappoint a few of you ... but I'm also hoping that "my" favourite will make a few of you happy (I like you guys)
Some of my best coin-friends in real life are people I've met on the internet first. I would never have met them without it Q
Thanks, Qude ... I like you Ahahaha ... by the diminishing-responses, I'm assuming that it will just be a handful of us at the closing ceremonies, eh? Sorry for the prolonged thread ... it seemed like a cool idea Oh, but I can't wait to post my 2016 favourite!! (coins are so fricken fun, eh?)
