Well, I've seen lots of amazing Siliqua coins pass-by my eyes, but I have never taken a chomp on the lure ... but apparently today, I decided that the worm was succulent enough!!? ... anyway ... Here is another one of my three sweet purchases ... Arcadius, AR Siliqua Quinquennalia issue, Mediolanum (Milan) mint 383-408 AD Struck AD 388 Diameter: 17 mm Weight: 1.43 grams Obverse: Pearl-diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust right Reverse: VOT V/MVLT X in four lines within wreath Reference: MDPS. RIC IX 13; Ulrich-Bansa, Moneta, 23; RSC 27B Other: 12h … iridescent toning From the D. Fagan Collection, purchased from Edward J. Waddell
Awesome late Roman silver Steve! In a few, I'll post his brother in silver form as well. With your descriptive writing I'll bet your English teachers loved you, Steve
Thanks ... Arcadius looks pretty "okay" with being in-charge, eh? ... Yah, I try to have that look in the office as well ... but sadly, occasionally it goes awry and I have that random cry-baby yelling thang goin' on!! ... *whateva* ... oh well, there are at least two different managing-styles, right?
Wow sweet Siliqua Steve, really like the reverse toning, sadly i don't see any animals...very nice...
Whatever he had, I wouldn't mind having some on standby for the next coin auction I'm gonna participate in.
I might benefit from a little of that too after the last week of auctions. I bid so hard on a few coins in the first Triton but came away with nothing. I missed a couple of targets in last night's Stacks auction too. Today I bid heavily on a half dozen and came away with four, one of which was a good price, one an okay price, and two in the "you paid what for that?" range. I rarely drink but tonight may call for a scotch.
seems like we're having a coin boom...also start out of the gate in 2015. that coin is pretty darn awesome stevex...the color is great and the details are sweet. what's the term for the lines that run radially from the legend and some other high points on a coin? they're very pronounced and cool on that coin.
flow lines...don't know why i coudln't remember that, not a difficult term thanks vk. they're very pronounced on steve's coin in some places. is some of it die damage or is at all just the pressure of being stuck? anyway, it looks really cool with the toning...great coin stevex. a siliqua is on my list! mind if i post my favorite arcadius ae since i don't have a silver?
From Ed Waddell? I'm impressed! Trivia: IMHO the single most valuable thing in his stock is the URL to his website. We were all very new to this Internet thing and he registered coin.com first. I suspect it would sell for a lot to someone whose stock was bullion. I am surprised no one seems to be using ancientcoin.com but there was ancientcoins.ca which now seems dead.
Nice one Steve! I like the toning. Arcadius' eyes appear droopy and glazed over, couple that with those groovy flow lines on the reverse and this coin definitely has a psychedelic and a bit 'trippy' look to it imo.
I agree... he was very smart to acquire that domain. Now I wish he would make a nicer site with that valuable digital property. He also owns ancientcoin.com. It forwards to coin.com.
