Showing the danger of posting coins based on a seller ID, I discover that my Sikyon is the 430-390 BC version (Sear 2763) issued for the financing of the war against Athens. Sparta, chief opponent in the Peloponnesian war, did not issue coins but Sikyon provided minting facilities. The Chimera is the anti-owl. Coins with the wreath above the Chimera and SI below are later (Sear 2771) so I assume that Steve's and AJ's coins are intermediate with SE and wreath. My previous experience with owls allows me to look at various styles and relate them to the historical timeline. This is new to me for coins of the other side. Looking at coins posted online (acsearch, etc.) I see more attention to the goat and snake details on earlier coins. I have not discovered the reason for the change from SE to SI yet. Anyone?
