My Sassanian, the King of Kings Kavadh I, the ancient world's ultimate hippie dude who embraced vegetarianism, sharing the wealth, and making love...not war.

    Kavad I Sassanian Empire.jpg

And for the first hippie in the world, a hippie song to go. I can just imagine that if Kavadh I had been alive in the 1960's, he'd be driving his Ford Mustang to California for a month of anti-war protests, free love, and pot smoking, while listening to this song over his car radio.

This goes right along with the stack of vintage 1966/67 Life and Saturday Evening Posts magazines I've been reading over the last couple of days. Truly a different world.

Any time I look at an Alexandrian tetradrachm, I think of this video:

    TETTNNo.jpg TETTNNr.jpg
EGYPT. Alexandria. Trajan (AD 98-117). BI tetradrachm (13.62 gm). Dated RY 19 (AD 115/116). Laureate head of Trajan right, star before / Bust of Nilus right, LI - Θ flanking. Emmet 387. Dattari 673.
    (My coin, not my picture)

    (Warning: This video is PG-13)

Love the song by A Perfect Circle, by the way.

This coin is full of mysticism and subtle references to the zodiac and mystical revelations according to some researchers:

The elephant is possibly the symbol of the white elephant who reputedly entered in dream the womb the mother of the Buddha which would make it a symbol of Buddhism.

The bull represents the birth of the Buddha, as it happened during the month of Vaicakha (April–May), known to Buddhists as Vezak under the zodiacal sign of the Taurus, during the full moon.

    Bactrian Drachm.jpg

So what song would be appropriate for a coin that represents the moon, zodiac signs, and mystic revelations to the mother of the Buddha?
