I would prefer we not call the Eastern mint denarii 'Provincials'. They were not made for local use only and seem to have circulated wherever the army went. The bronzes shown are 'Provincials'. Similarly there are branch mint silver coins for Elagabalus, Alexander, Gordian III and Philip (and other rarer ones) which were mainstream rather than local.
Do the math. Divide your two years worth and multiply by the fifty years I have been in the hobby. The number might be your projected total in 50 years assuming you don't pick up steam. I checked my catalog and discovered that I had half of my current coins in December 1997 with the other half coming since then. Your time will come if you stay interested.
I think I've done ok and I see your point. I've purchased 130 coins in 2 years, about to be 131 as soon as I receive that Plautilla. I hope to stay interested in ancient coin collecting. Other than a 6 month hiatus, I've gotten at least one coin a month, more so in the beginning.
Hey Gil-galad => I love it that you're back in the fold (cheers brother) ... ... sadly, I can't go back and check in the CCF to determine when I bought my first ancient coin (*sigh*) ... but I'm fairly sure that it was sometime in February 2012? ... => so I have been collecting for two years as well ... Happy Anniversary!! I have 243 coins ... so that's almost "10" coins per month (*yikes*) ... Ummm, can somebody tell my sweet, darlin' wife that ten coins per month is a "normal" pace (or sadly, is she correct and I am buying too many coins?) ... man, I don't want to hear the answer ... Hmmm? ... that seems obsessive ... maybe it's been "3" years?
well little dude, luckily for you => you're still a kid (I had zero ancients until I was 48 years old)
Unfortunately, you did not make a gallery there and I checked to see if you had one. If you had one, it's been nuked along with your user account. I did check to see what was your first ancient coin. You really need a gallery, bro. If you need help making one at say Tantalus, or anywhere I could help you if you want one. Those great coins you have need documentation. That's what I think. Sure, I'll tell her but she wouldn't listen to me. I doubt it. lol Steve doesn't have many low grade budget coins like I do. Trust me on that. He just has a bigger budget than I do. I don't mind because I can check out all those awesome coins he has. Cheers, coin bro!
Not a problem, Steve. Offer still stands to help you with a gallery. I know you have a metric ton of backlog there in coins. Sorry about hijacking your thread, iamtiberius.
FYI => hey, we found a post from the CCF confirming that February 2012 was my/our 2nd anniversary!! (thanks Doug) ... yup, it seems like just yesterday that I was posting PAN and his trusty but lusty goat!!
Since I only average a bit over 5 coins a month, you can tell your wife that I'm a good influence. Of course you will have to still be collecting when you are over a hundred if you want to make up for the head start I got.
