Happy 4th of July, fellas ... => here is a shot of me having to pass-on the croquet trophy Sad, yet happy day for the young dude that works in my office (he's a good kid)
Very nice coin and one that I have been looking for (yes, I say that for just about every coin that gets posted ). Congrats on this awesome acquisition and for $60 no less...
Don't collect such coins myself but came across this article (German) today. It is about a half dirhem silver coin from 642 AH (1244 AD) that shows a warrior with a bow and a bird. On the other side there is a reference to Töregene Khatun and to Tbilisi (today the capital of Georgia) where the coin was minted. (Ø 14 mm, weight 1.4 g - Hope the embedded link works.) Apparently a collector in Halle, ST was interested in the piece, got it from a dealer in Frankfurt but then returned it. The coin was "last seen" in a postal distribution center in Leipzig ... and then was stolen or lost. The price was €1,350 but, according to the article, only two other coins like that one are known to exist. Christian
