Yah, I got outbid on my primary coin-target, so I got kinda angry and started hunting for other coins as a knee-jerk reaction ... unfortunately, a lot of the really hot coins had already been taken home, but then I spotted Tranquillina across the smokey dance-floor ... => meet my new girlfriend, Tranquillina Butterface CAPPADOCIA, Caesarea- Eusebia, Tranquillina, Augusta, AR Drachm AD 241-244 Dated RY 4 of Gordian III (AD 240/1) Diameter: 18 mm Weight: 2.71 grams Obverse: Draped bust right, wearing stephane Reverse: Mt. Argaeus; ЄT Δ (date) in exergue Reference: Bland, Last 58; Sydenham, Caesarea Supp. 617aa Other: 5h … find patina ... I looked-up previous sales on this coin-type and was very happy to find that I paid less than all of the other examples (what do ya know, I actually made a pretty sweet purchase "on the rebound!!") (#168 on the ERIC-II Rarity list ... whatever that's worth)
This is also my first example with "Mount Argaeus" => please post any relevant, or irrelevant coins!! Happy Canada Day!!
Roman Provincial Deultum Tranquillina AE 22, 238-244 AD, 4.74g, 22.5mm OBV: SAB TRANQVILLINA AVG, Diademmed, draped bust right. REV: COL FL PAC DEVLT, Marsyas advancing right, with shouldered wineskin. REF: Pending
Man I haven't even look at anything. I'm so jealous. Very nice little brother. Argaeus; * in exergue Struck at Caesaria, Cappadocia, 139 AD 6.2g, 21mm Syd 301c
You can't have too many coins with Mt. Argaeus on them, especially when they're that crisp. Great pick-up Steve!

I have absolutely no problem with the ERIC II rarity list but it was made solely for IMPERIAL coins (the I in ERIC) and means less than nothing for Provincials. Tranquillina would be a hundred places lower if he had included Provincials. My Mount Argaeus is a bronze with the table (altar) top model of the mountain as issued by Septimius Severus in 194 AD (year 2).
some other similar coin-examples ... https://cngcoins.com/Search.aspx?PAGE_NUM=&PAGE=1&TABS_TYPE=2&CONTAINER_TYPE_ID=3&IS_ADVANCED=1&ITEM_DESC=CAPPADOCIA, Caesarea-Eusebia. Tranquillina&ITEM_IS_SOLD=1&SEARCH_IN_CONTAINER_TYPE_ID_1=1&SEARCH_IN_CONTAINER_TYPE_ID_3=1&SEARCH_IN_CONTAINER_TYPE_ID_2=1 ... I paid $300 for my new chick-coin (which is a whole lot, I admit ... ummm, but not when compared against some other examples)
I love the posts guys!! And I love that 'mountain'---I am still trying to get a modest example that I can 'squeeze' into my tiny remaining budget along with one or two others...Jeez, otherwise I have to wait until the end of July... BAH!!! Happy Canada Day !!!
I got a little carried away today w/ CNG. Good news, though; I'll have more time to be on here after my wife files for divorce. I've never purchased from CNG. Anyone know their average shipping/arrival times from auction close?
That Tranquillina is a wonder Steve ! I've been looking for one years during and always gave up because of the price sellers were asking. Good job I can show a related/relevant coin with an equivalent for Plautilla, which is, IMO even rarer but not as much sought after as we have alternatives with Plautilla denarii, where for Tranquillina, ahem....it's a bit more pricey Plautilla, Provincial - Caesaraea drachm Cappadocia, Caesaraea - Eusebia), AD 205. i hope gordian doesn't find out you took his lady home! very cool chick, i don't have one of her at all. that's an excellent rebound score! i do have this mt argeous reverse...love to see that cool mountain on coins.
I got a bit carried away too! Perhaps one of the few times I would've welcomed clio. lol CNG shipping within the US is quite fast. 2-4 days. Internationally, as Steve has already stated, is a bit longer, 1-3 weeks. Customs holds up most of the international shipments (curse ISC NY!), which CNG of course has no control over.
Might be a slight bit more this time, as the offices are closed today and Monday for the holiday. But rest assured that the shipping department was working their butts off to get coins out yesterday!
