Steve-- do you know about that old tripster legend of using DSOTM as the soundtrack to the Wizard of Oz? Hit play when the MGM lion begins the 3rd roar (or 2nd, depending on who you ask). There are some interesting moments where the music fits the screen action. (Yes, I've done this. While completely sober.) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_Side_of_the_Rainbow http://dark-side-of-the-rainbow.com/ http://dark-side-of-the-rainbow.com/list-printer-friendly.html And to keep the thread numismatic here's a coin That Macrinus & Diadumenian I recently won was for the Animals collection (dog). My composite picture and presentation were getting a bit crowded so I didn't put it in there. I'll put it in my Forvm gallery. I don't have any Roman Imperials in the set yet but hope to find a few-- would like to cover as broad a geographic/temporal area as possible with the collection.
I'm too late in the game to play, but I have to say I really like the image in the first post. It's wonderful to see an entire collection laid out like that.
I have definitely heard of the band, but, since I listen to a specific genre, I can't say as I've ever heard their music. Now I get nostalgic when I hear music by Hank Williams Sr, Jim Ed Brown, George Jones, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Emily Lou Harris and the like.
great ancient coin presi TIF! if any of you didn't notice, you can click on the pictures or mouse wheel in to get real nice high res photo of the coins. they're fantastic. i've loved pink floyd since i was in high school... i may have driven around with stevex in that car of his...for some reason i can't remember the details. there is certainly a niche market for vinyl out there still, i saw a stack of records this weekend at a store.
How many know where this was 'stolen' adapted from? http://www.megadeth.com/ Time to talk about coins yet?
Prezi could be useful for putting together a map with coins placed at their locations of minting. That would be a very interesting way to showcase a collection. Maybe I'll do it, although most of my coins would be clustered in a small area of modern day Turkey. The background for the Prezi would be a high resolution map (ancient world or modern, not sure which I'd use). The way the software moves from one step to the next would be a lot like zooming on Google Maps, although unlike GMaps the resolution would diminish with the zoom unless a vector graphics map is used. Yeah, I think that's next on the slate
Really fun theme and presentation! Animals is probably the one Floyd album I've never owned or heard anything from (and I once even had Piper at the Gates of Dawn on vinyl). Oh, the shame...
Cool presentation, and a really cool collection idea! I think I will just stick to my one dimensional animal collection of rhinos, (its a nose thing). Pigs not as much, but dogs are not so easy to find on ancients. Congratulations.
I always thought you were tech savvy, based on your binary age post, but it's nice to see someone referencing vector graphics! (I'm a software engineer )
Well then I guess I had you fooled. I know a few things but am just an end-user. Most of my friends are in the tech industry so along the way I've picked up a few things. I used to be slightly more adept than the average non-techie computer user but for the first time ever am feeling old as I am no longer able to fix simple problems. Gonna blame it on switching to a Mac. (note to Apple: Liar liar pants on fire, it doesn't 'just work'.)
I've got no coins to post but perhaps you are referring to the big man, rat or the house proud town mouse on the Animals LP?
Hey TIF ... please give my prize to Whizb4ng He is a fellow Manitoban, but he seems hampered by his student loans ... I would feel much jollier if you Santa'd my prize-coin to him, instead of giving it to me ... => Ho-Ho-Ho, Whizb4ng!! => oh, and thanks for being the real Santa, TIF (great contest, great coins!!)
Roger than, SteveO! That's mighty nice of you. Hey Whiz, give some thought to what you might want and I'll see what I have.
The answer to the OP question was Pink Floyd's album titled "Animals" The coins in the OP depict the same animals that the Pink Floyd songs describe in the song titles & lyrics. Pink Floyd's Animals album contains good-to-great music IMHO.
Oh gee I hadn't read this thread in awhile. Thanks a lot Steve and TIF! Best present Santa could give. I know you go that lot of Byzantine coins recently that was a consolation prize to some Greeks you want and with your most recent lot of LRBs. If you want to pick something from one of those I can give it a good home! I will send you a PM with the details.
