Mystery option E is actually a double header (literally!). First up Maximinus II Daia AE Quarter Follis (AD 305-6). RIC lists this type as "R" meaning that it is rare with only 26-50 examples known in the collections that were examined. Valentinian I AE18 (AD 364-375). I have a much more junky but much more sentimental Valentinian I in my collection already so I figured it would be good to give this coin a more appreciative home Valentinian I is often considered the last great emperor of the west. Please PM me with the mailing address you would like me to send to @Kasia Alright @ancientone you are up next! What will it be?
By my calculation the breakdown was as follows. Coin #1 - 2 Correct Guesses Coin #2 - 5 Correct Guesses Coin #3 - 4 Correct Guesses Coin #4 - 15 Correct Guesses Coin #5 - 1 Correct Guess It is entirely possible that I missed capturing a correct guess here or there and I didn't include the people who voted only in the poll. The data clearly shows that @FitzNigel doesn't have a devious or tricky bone in his body (a good thing btw!) Even after I edited the part of the write up about using the coin to teach students this coin just totally felt like a FN coin. You have great tastes my friend
@Curtisimo, I am thrilled with those coins. Thank you again for the contest, it really was so much fun.
Also, @Curtisimo, I would like it if you sent the second of the mystery coins (Valentinian) to @Youngcoin. For two reasons. I wish to pass on the good fortune that @Severus Alexander passed on to me with the roach pick, and this was such a great contest it needs to have another winner of a coin, and he is a yn.
I can do that. @Youngcoin, congrats! I'll be sending you a sweet new Valentinian I. PM me your shipping address and I'll get it on its way
Not sure I understand everything at how you managed to calculate everything but it sure as fun to participate Congrats to the winners Q
It seems @zumbly and I, with @Curtisimo's able management (in particular the devious presentation order), really messed y'all up! Of course it didn't help that most of the volunteers happened to be generalists. Anyway, it was a lot of fun to watch from the sidelines. I hope @Curtisimo will do it again next year! (But I will be a guesser!) Congrats to the winners!
It was a lot of fun reading all the thoughts of why this coin or that coin “belonged” to me. Great idea for game and well executed.
Mystery option D: Another multiple coin grab bag of sweet late Roman bronzyness Gratian AE19 (AD 367-383). These holding a laborum while dragging around a prisoner reverses are one of my favorites from the late Roman period Constantine I AE Follis (AD 326-328) PM me your shipping address and I will get them out to you ASAP @ancientone Okay @chrsmat71 you are up and all the mystery coins are taken
Holy cow! I didn't get a single one right, yay! Thanks so much, Curtisimo! I've actually won a couple of times on here, so I would like to give my coin to someone who hasn't won a contest yet. I don't really know who has and who hasn't, but I trust you dudes and dudettes. Erin
@Kasia!!! Oh my goodness our resident psychic* came in first place! and won!!! Yaaaaayyy! That’s wonderful! And you shared! That is even more wonderful of you.... Congratulations to all the winners. * sort of @Johndakerftw- Neither did I!
Lol yes this! Also @H8_modern made a play with Z written all over it and I knew my late Roman Silique fit right into one of your areas Bunch of tricksters we are! I plan to host at least two 'events' per year with one being the 2nd Imperitor tournament I have a few other fun ideas for coin-centric games as well. Can't wait!
Congrats to all the winners! It was enjoyable to watch, and I agree with Sev A that having many of us volunteers being generalists made the contest more challenging. Heck, I was guessing on the sidelines and getting most of the answers wrong too . Kudos to @Curtisimo for running a most excellent giveaway!
There are a ton of people I'd like to give it too. I was thinking of someone who hasn't won anything yet, or someone who's finding it a bit rough this season and could benefit from a gift of cheer. I don't really have anybody specific in mind. If anybody does know someone, please let either Curtisimo or myself know. Much appreciated! Erin
