Learning from you guys Hey, I was just taking a moment for lunch and thought I'd spy on who bought what at today's CNG. Spotted your second one. Nice!
I've been trying to find out what the significance of the one-headed, two-bodied owl actually represents (with no success) ... => ummm, do any of you Mister Wizards know if there is any significance, or is it merely a super-cool-owl-coin?!! .... Doug? ...
I LOVE that owl, and all the different colors featured! But...there's something weird about the bodies which I can't quite put my finger one...
=> ahahaha ... yes, it does kinda look like a fat baby owl (maybe I have a one-of-a-kind for Wildwinds!!?)
IDK but that won't stop me from guessing. Athens used the double headed owl a couple times on double denominations (diobol and dichalkon) so this may be two somethings. I do know, however, who you should ask. Dane Kurth AKA Helvetia of Wildwinds has a fondness for owl coins and a page of them: http://www.catbikes.ch/helvetica/owlcoins.htm She is a friendly type willing to share so I'd suggest writing to her and asking the question.
Doug => I sent Dane an e-mail (I cc'd you) ... hopefully she'll have an answer to my two-bodied-one-headed inquiry?
oh man, that creepy owl/nightmare creature is AWESOME! I've never seen anything like that. that's one of my fav's of your I think!
I was weirded out when I saw this coin in the online catalog. Kinda figures whose menagerie it ended up in.
I didn't even realize that there were two bodies at first. I just thought they fed the owl a few too many rats. Another awesome pickup!
I contacted Dane (from Wildwinds) and asked her about the significance of the two-bodied owl ... and here is her response: => Dane was extremely helpful and friendly (an absolute coin-pleasure!!) Cheers gang!! ... I'm glad that you enjoyed my new coin(s)
