    8th century is a hard one. I have several coins that I have dated to a span including the 8th (things like 7-8th, Chach, earliest Shahi) but my only hard dated coin starting with a 7xx is Constantine V as well but not as high end. rz0410bb0777.jpg

    I believe this al Mahdi is 775-785 but I know as little about the coin as any I have and could be wrong.

    For Central Asia, (since you mention Chach), the 8th century was an interesting time. Its when the Cash like coins were supplanting the traditional coinage. Most Cash coins from Sogdia belong to this era.

    An additional source for people looking for a coin of this century would be Chinese, (which wold be cheap and plentiful), and early Islamic. You can find very nice Abassid half dinars fairly inexpensively from the era, with a definite date on them.

    Due to my collection focus, I have a lot more coins from the 8th century than most. I bet I have a lot more from the 8th century than say the first.

    Thanks for posting your 8th century coins, fellas!

    ... it is often quite interesting how many people have the OP coin, eh?

    => there were a handful of you regulars that all seemed to have the same Constantine V & Leo IV coin (quite amazing) ... thank you very much for showing me a few other examples of my new coin ... I appreciate the opportunity to compare our subtle differences => flan size, colour, grade, etc ... yup, everybody's coin is always a little bit differnt ...

    => you guys are awesome!!
