To make a long story short.... Last Friday I was asked to ID some coins at the local library that they found in their safe, that had not been opened since the mid '60s. The coins had no identifying paperwork. There was about 150 or so coins, in boxes. Many of which are modern in manufacture say 1787 to 1925 or so. Among the coins was three lonely bronze coins in a relatively poor state of preservation. I was able to ID the coins with certainty. SOOOoooo word got out that I had ID coins dating as early as 290BC. I was then asked to due a 30 min presentation on ancient coins and the ones found in the collection. I reluctantly agreed. Next thing I know I was interviewed by the New Haven Register. They took like a hundred pictures of me with the coins. So I expected to be in a 2x2 square on page 7 in a Thursday paper. Well that's not what happened.... I ended up with an 8.5 x 11" color photo of my mug on the FRONT PAGE of the Saturday Newspaper. I am also online.... http://www.nhregister.com/general-n...e-look-at-ancient-coins-dating-back-to-290-bc Laugh guys...go ahead... I will be giving a presentation on Tuesday 3/25 at 6pm at the Hagaman Memorial Library. 227 Main Street East Haven, Connecticut. Collect89 will also be their to present, on modern coins. Note I was miss quoted and the attributions are all screwy...but from what I hear its typical of the Register, but I wont begrudge a Newspaper that puts me on the FRONT PAGE, when their are missing Jetliners and derailed trains to cover.... They also called me an ancient coin expert, which I absolutely told them I am not...I consider myself a novice numismatist. I encourage anyone in the area to attend it will be fun...
Congratulations, that's very exciting! Why would we laugh? I think its a great thing. There might be lots of people that now seek you out for your expertise - you could make a fun part time gig out of it. Good luck giving your presentation.... not easy to stand up in front of a room full of strangers. Hope it goes well for you!
Hey man, good on you! I would so join your club if I lived a few hundred miles north. Just one question though: what is "strucken" bronze?
Oh cool. Can I have your autograph? Wow! Local coin expert. Way to go. Now little noob can claim to be descended from someone important. Seriously. Good job my young friend (terrible picture -I couldn't help myself).
that's pretty darn cool! very nice AN. i'm sure you'll do great! i see you've went for the beard as well!
Wow if i lived a little closer i would love to here you speak, very cool c89 will be there to. to know a top Ancient collector a real pro, awesome master noob!!!
Those damn newspapers are always going to get stuff wrong. But still a very cool feature. Nice pic too!
You are soo much closer to being a numismatic expert than the author of that article is to being a journalist. It is no wonder that newspapers are failing in so many cities.
