My latest addition is a Victorinus. The photo shows some silvering but in hand there is LOTS more. I'd say it still 80% left. Even the edges have silvering. Victorinus (268 - 271 A.D.) Æ(S) Antoninianus O: IMP C VICTORINVS P F AVG, radiate draped and cuirassed bust right. R: PAX AVG, Pax standing left holding scepter and branch, V in left field, * in right field. Treveri (Trier). Struck 269 - 270 A.D. 3.1g 20mm RIC V 117; AGK 14a; Cohen 83
Nice silvering, that one, Mat. The strike is sharper than most (especially the typically-weak reverse). Thank you, guy
Thanks. I usually dismiss these types but this caught my eye so I wanted it. Little over $20 so I think I did well.
As a general rule, any well struck, full legend, smooth surfaced coin of the Gallic Empire is worth over $20. As these go, the OP coin is exceptional.
That's a sweet lookin' Victorinus, Mat (congrats!!) ... once again, I find myself without an example to post ... *sigh* ... yup, you're correct => I need to buy more coins!!
Nice coin Mat. VICTORINUS Antoninianus OBVERSE: IMP C VICTORINVS P F AVG, radiate, draped & cuirassed bust right REVERSE: SALV-S AVG, Salus standing right, holding snake she feeds out of patera in her right hand Struck at Colonia Agrippinensis (Cologne), 269/270 AD 3.2g, 20mm RIC 67
Victorinus AE Antoninianus. 3.5g, 20.75mm OBV: IMP C VICTORINVS AVG, Radiate draped bust right. REV: PAX AVG, Pax standing left holding olive branch and sceptre, V in left field, star in right field. REF: RIC 117
that is a sweet lookin' coin from the v-man. I thought it was straight up silver when I first saw it.
