I would love to sell you a car.

BTW in light of these failed purchases- I went to my usual guy and bought 5 coins! Totaling less than what I would have spent for this one.

    New purchases include...

1 x "High Five" AE Roman Commemorative

    1 x Peroz I Dirham

2 x Rarer Mauryan Empire punchmarked coins of the Patriarch and his successful son. Complimenting my rarer coins of his son /grandson.

1 x Really rare Islamic coin. (I usually don't purchase Islamic coins but the one I got is in great shape rare and off the hizzy.)

I'd love to see the last three. You should start a new thread.

I would love to start a new thread for each but I'd hate to jinx the coins (HAHA). I might once all the transactions clear. The seller that I got these from has always been good to me and hooks me up with "substantial" discounts. He is an expert in Indian, Central Asian and Oriental coins. He often has "new" stuff, everything from recently discovered unpublished items to the very common in my case the "high five" Roman commemorative. I suppose I could post them with little fear of the Jinx.

I kinda have that mentality right now with a recent purchase lol, except I'm waiting till it arrives to post it. I think I got an amazing deal on it.

What objective reason can there be to continue doing business with this seller? You've twice been disappointed by him/her, and both times there is a putatively reasonable explanation, but the end result is the same -- you paid money and got nothing in return. OK, you'll receive a refund (have you, yet?) but consider this: a truly excellent bait-and-switch scammer would act exactly this way so as not to lose you as a future customer: apologize profusely, appear sincere, offer other (not quite as good) coins for your already-made payment, and finally, if all else fails, offer to refund your money.

This situation may be as Doug describes in his response above -- that this seller is just a very incompetent/unorganized business person, doesn't know where his inventory is or whether or not his coins have been sold, sells on multiple venues, etc. -- and that is a reasonable interpretation of this sequence of events. But my experience in similar situations (not with coins) tends toward the more sinister conclusion that I first posted in this thread.

Regardless, I can't see any objective reason to do business with this seller.

It is sooo important to buy in confidence, but keeping an updated inventory on several sites + visiting Coin Shows ain't an easy job... Happened to me also, once...
I apologized, and gave a 15% discount on the guy's next purchase (which he used, the day after)...
