The Ancient Scarab were a sacred items to the Egyptians. the Scarabs were carved mostly out of steatite and coated in different colors. other materials carnelian, lopis lazuli, basalt, limestone and some other materials colored glass and clay, many different colors and styles. Nice thread! ! Here are two of my scarabs Intermediate Period. Circa 1650-1550 BC. Steatite scarab (14x10mm). Base engraved with a cross pattern. New Kingdom. Late 2nd Millennium BC. Unusually large (32 x 24 mm) steatite scarab decorated at the base with the name of Thuthmosis III and additional Ra hieroglyph.

(congrats) Yah, I scored a couple of scarbas a while back (wanna see 'em?) 2nd Intermediate Period Steatite scarab Circa 1650-1550 BC Diameter: 23 x 16 mm Obverse: Base engraved with an antelope walking right; palm branches in field. A few minor chips and cracks, otherwise intact, part of greenish-brown glaze remaining, pierced for mounting.
