I was going thru my coins recently and took new pictures with the new camera (below) and I decided I would get another batch of un-cleaned Romans again and help with my downtime and enjoyment. I decided to buy a bulk lot of 165 coins that are guess to be VF or better based on the lot. they are encrusted in soft dirt and I should get them in very soon and start posting the results.

I think now that my modern Chinese set is winding down I can work on a fun set of Roman coins.

I hope to be able to add say 120 of those 165 to this nice collection. I will make sure to post before and after pictures of the coins in question once they arrive. They ended up being about $1.44 each.

I'm presuming that the lovely coins in the photo are your existing fully cleaned collection. They looked as if they mostly completed expert cleaning, with just a touch here and there of deliberately left crust on a few to give a feeling of antiquity. Nice coins.

Wow... does this mean that the coins in the photographs came from an uncleaned lot-- even the silver? I wish you great luck but these days I don't think you'll find any uncleaned lots with coins of such quality.

Edited: can you pictures of just the second coin? (the Caracalla denarius, VICT PART MAX)

These in the pictures above were all in an uncleaned lot from 3+ years ago. The 1st two silvers were bought cleaned.

Thanks I bought it probably 10 years ago on ebay. I'll take it out.

What is your basis for saying this is a known fake? I would like to know.

I just finished scrubbing them and changing the water. I'll let them soak a few days.

I can’t wait to see the progress you make cleaning some of those heavily encrusted romans under your new magnifier @britannia40 . Take lots of pics!

The Constantine campgate in row 6 is a fantastic piece. Man... it's been too long since I've got a new campgate, they're fun little coins to collect.
How well do those cleaning pencils work?

The pencils work great with the new Microscope. I'm still learning the cleaning route.
