Ancient real or fake?

    The rim problems can be explained by photography and lighting, as dougsmith pointed out. I feel the style is acceptable for a small denomination from Miletos, so (as far as I'm concerned) that is explained as well.

    Would someone who feels it is a cast please explain the crystallization?

    Of course, I wouldn't be too much concerned whether its real or fake - its a crappy coin anyway!

    They cast copied a poor quality coin? The cast copy process was just really poor? I have seen a lot of cheap copies with very poor quality surfaces, I have always just assumed it was a poor quality fake. Maybe they were dumb enough to do a decent copy job on a poor quality coin? IDK.

    We can agree to disagree on this one, and I feel weird since I am usually the one cautioning against declaring a fake coin from a photo BECAUSE so many things can be affected by lighting. Anyway, either way you are right its a poor quality coin and the OP should seek better. They are pretty common coins, (generically), and better examples are easy enough to find.
