This was in a current batch of uncleaned. It was completely crusted over like all the rest. Therefore, I assume it was drilled out when it was still in circulation. The hole is smooth and worn evenly. It was placed at the top of the coin as would be expected for a pendant. Has anyone ever encountered such a piece?

That is cool, Inspector..... I have a fallen horseman that has a squared hole in it. The folks in the ancients forum told me that it was common for folks to nail these to their door frames to indicate political affiliations.
